I said No, what I would prefer to see is life in prison.... life meaning life and no seperate areas for them. Put them in with the general prison population. I use to know the brother of a man convicted of one of the worse crimes in Australia. To answer the question if it was your love one would you want them on death row.... his answer was 'I wish they had the death penalty, he may be my brother but for what he did he deserves to die.' |

I say "eye for an eye". And life in prison usually only means a few years because they end up getting parol, which to me is BS! Get out for "good" behavior. BAH! Or take them out to the swamps and let the bugs, snakes, etc have at em! Torture them the way these kids will be tortured with this for the rest of their lives. |

ummmmmm, could we narrow down the definition of "sex offender"? That is a blanket term covering any and all acts that could be sexual in nature, from "flashing" to rape and sodomy. In fact, one of my nephews, when he was 6, was classed as a "sex offender" by his school because he >>>GASP<<< kissed a girl on the cheek on the school bus. I think that the death penalty, or chemical and/or physical castration is a bit much for his "offense", no? |

sex offender n. generic term for all persons convicted of crimes involving sex, including rape, molestation, sexual harassment and pornography production or distribution. In mosst states convicted sex offenders are supposed to report to local police authorities, but many do not. (See: rape, molestation, sexual harassment, pornography) this is the LEGAL definition of the term "sex offender" as provided by: the FREEdictionary |

I ask again, for those in support of the death penalty. Would you still say the same if it were YOUR loved one on death row? |

I have mixed feelings about the death penalty for ANY crime. As an ex-LEO, and a big fan of court TV, I see many reasons NOT to support a death penalty. And, I can also understand the rage of victims and citizens to make a heinous offender pay the ultimate price for violating the rules and morals of the society in which they live. Case in pooint: Recently on CourtTV's show "Forensic Files", and man who had been convicted of assaulting his pregnant wife, causing her severe brain trauma and the loss of her unborn child, was released after spending 16 years in prison. He had been eligible for parole twice, and all he had to do to get out was admit his guilt, and his repentance. Trouble was.... he claimed he was innocent. He was arrested and convicted BEFORE DNA sampling was a common procedure for confirming the identity of offenders, and was convicted soley on the evidence of a blood sample. LO and behold, it turns out the guy WAS innocent. An officer working 'cold cases', was looking into a series of rape/assaults that had taken place around the same time. Turns out that the ACTUAL assailant had been on a spree, and eventually was caught and convicted on other charges. His DNA, using newer technology, was traced back to the original attacks. He eventually confessed to the attacks, and the Husband was released. Of course, his wife had long since divorced him and remarried, and the innocent man was left to try and pick up the pieces of his life as best he can. Of course, he will have to tell any future employers that he was convicted of sexually assaulting his former wife, even though the conviction was overturned. There is no way that this mans lost years can be restored to him, but he is alive, and is now an advocate for insuring that convicts have access to have their cases re-examined in light of new DNA evidence. If he had been executed for his "crime", how would it be rectified? |

That is outrageous and shocking. I think the real problem is the law, the offenders don't get enough jail time or punishment. I will never be for the death penalty because it's legalised murder and has no place in modern society. We teach kids not to kill or hurt another human being, in some countries they teach this and also execute people. They are conflicting with each other. Kids and adults see this and then think it's ok to go out and beat somebody up for something, its the same eye for an eye mentality and does not discourage violence or murders as we can see by the stats of the countries that enforce it. The eye for an eye concept causes violence. |

Prison in some countries can be worse but for the most these animals are put on protection wings. I would give the death sentence to all sex offenders without hesitation. |

Just to clarify XSAS, are you talking about rapists, molestors and pedophiles, or the entire gamut of "sex offenders"? I hesitate to use the terms "serious sex offender" VS "non-serious sex offenders", because I do not wish to make light of the subject. And, were you aware that in certain states in the US >coughGeorgiacough< it is considered a "crime" to be homosexual? Or that consensual sodomy between two adults (regardless of gender) is a convictable offense in Alabama? And that in many states it is unlawful to be a crossdresser or transvestite? |

That is outrageous, it is like being back in the dark ages and we criticize Isalm for the way they behave.... Just to clarify, yes I mean rapists, molestors and paedophiles. |

This is a difficult one for me.... On the one hand I believe that you shouldn't take life and on the other the crime of rape, or child molestation is so horrific that I think that such a person has no right to life. |
