That’s interesting Ashley and yes I have heard such things. Indeed the fact that the 22 trumps can be linked to the 22 hebrew letters is perhaps supporting of such an idea, however I personally do not subscribe to it. I think the tarot originates from far older a time then that of the Hebrews, though it has gone through a meriad of changes and transitions.

The links to the Kaballah and the Tree of Life is quite strong, yet I feel that this is something the Cards picked up during their growth, rather then being the origins of the cards them selves.

Now most sources will state that the cards originated in Milan in about 1400 but I Vicsconzi-Sforza’s revitalized an existing game rather then invented their own.

The advent of such people as Court de Gebelen steered the cards to their modern concept as devination objects. Now de Gebelins was an Occultist who after seeing the cards felt that the imagery was related to the Egyptians.

Later people such as Eliphas Levi noticed the possible links to the Kaballah and the Tree of Life. He felt that the Tarot could be used almost as a road map through the Tree of Life and to enlightenment. The Marseilles decks are probably the best to see the correlations with the Kaballah etc, though it also has quite a bit of possibly Egyptian symbology.

Of course later on the Cards were picked up (and I believe perverted) by the Order of the Golden Dawn. (I personally do not like to user any of the Waite decks as I consider Arthur Waite to be little less then a charlatan)

Then other groups such as B.O.T.A went even further towards muddling the meanings of the cards.

Basically what I am saying is that while the angelic keys are one idea as to the tarot it is only one and I think the origin of the Tarot is so shrouded in history that the true origin or even purpose of the Tarot is more or less impossible to find.

Anyhow I like to hear that your mother (and hopefully yourself) are skilled Tarot readers, My grandfather was also an incredibly gifted reader with the most incredible of instincts, I learnt to read from him when I was a child and have quite a bit of experience but I am still interested in any ideas from others. There is so much to learn of the Tarot and I feel that in exploring it I also learn of myself.

Oh and Mel my Yahoo ID is WanderingGypsyAR@yahoo.com.au

I don’t use it much but if ever I am on and you are to I woulud be more then willing to do a reading. Noting that online, non-face-to-face readings are in my opinion not as, good as a real reading for it minimises the instincts of the reader (or at least me) for while typing I have to much time to think about the cards while when doing a proper reading I say what is first to my mind. Which I feel is better to say the least.

Ah and BTW what thoughts do you have on the various spreads Ashley? I use quite a few different spreads depending on the type of reading I do and I was wondering if you could throw out your favourite?

Personally I feel the Cross and Triangle is one of the best spreads.

PS Sorry for the long post but I had a lot to say 

AR..I would also be interested in a reading. The readings I have had in the past have not been accurate, though I felt at the time that the reader may not have been very experienced. I will PM you my Yahoo. If you have a free moment I would appreciate it.

Sure. I am pretty busy for a while now but if I have some time I'll certainly do it.

As I said in my PM however, Proxy Readings are in my opinion not particularly good. The fact is that the person being read should be able to touch the cards.

The meaning of the Tarot cards corresponds to the letters of the Hebrew alphabet and it's meaning.

Just another card game, with nicer pictures on them, esp. the hand made ones which I collect.
"While hiding out in Cairo,... I'm a desperate man...Send lawyers, guns, and money,... the shit has hit the fan".(Paraphrase from "LAWYERS, GUNS AND MONEY")

"...We die at such a place;
some swearing; some dying, some crying for a surgeon;
....some upon their wives left poor behind them;
...some upon the debts they owed;
some upon their children rawly left.

I am afeared there are few die well that die in battle..."
