There's always the "I don't know, God works in mysterious ways" defense that I always get countered with. I like the convenience of that one. Although, maybe God does, if he's up there/out there. I can't possibly know, because if I did than I would have to be God, wouldnt I? hmmm... |

I too believe that a religion or belief of any kind should not be pushed on anyone. If anything, even though it may be trying to help, it seems to be more rejected in that manner. I believe what I believe for me. And I'm only responsible for myself, not the actions of others. |

I just think as far as belief goes a person should just stick to what, makes them happy and that to me alone is enough. |

You are your own best judge of what is right. Like my sig says, the great quote from Charles William Stubbs: "To sit alone with my conscience will be judgement enough for me." |

The Bible calls for all Christians to have an ANSWER for their faith, and not just blindly follow it. I agree that the Bible as we know it today has been TRANSLATED into different forms, but the believe the text itself remains the same. We have more copies and fragments of the books of the bible than there are copies of the Iliad or the Odyssey, yet no one questions THEIR translations. The bible, for believers, is the living Word of God, (some consider it an integral part of God Himself), and therefore, the meaning will not be lost. Taken as a whole, regardless of translation, the meaning and themes remain the same. The problem begins when you take every word of every book and become inflexible. The only way to really dig deep into every word of each book is to learn Ancient Hebrew and Greek, and Aramaic helps. If you aren't willing to do that, then you need to settle on the best translation. Once again, this is subject to opinion. Ultimately, the Bible is a GUIDEbook to heaven. You do the best you can with the understanding you have, you read it daily to gain new understanding. In this way, you become a better person, a more Jesus-like person. You accept more personal responsibility. (One of my pet peeves is that many people use forgiveness as an EXCUSE for doing stupid shit. "Well, I'll just be forgiven." Yeah, but you knew what you were doing when you did it. Accept some personal responsibility. God gave us free will for a reason. We will be judged by our actions and how well we followed the rules according to our OWN understanding of the scriptures. (I don't believe in someone telling me what the scriptures mean. I can read, even in multiple languages. Don't interpret for me, I can handle it.) At the end, when you stand before your maker, YOU are the only one who can answer for your choices. No preacher is going to be there to pay for your "misunderstanding" of the scriptures. Just you, and eternity of judgement. You make your choice, you take your consequences. It's true in ALL things. |
