OK, here we go... First of all, i'm really sorry but there'll be a lack of images for this tutorial... Anyways first of all, we need to get our images. The first time i did this, I pulled a bunch of tribal tatoo designs off the net, a photo of Michelangelo's David and a picture of a pair of shorts. Why? Well, we're gonna spruce up David for a night in the town. First of all, open up the photo of David. We wanna make a source image to use, so we need to change the image mode to Greyscale. (Image->Mode->Greyscale). Now add a slight blur to the image. Go to Filter->Blur->Gaussian Blur and set the blur level to around 1.0 Now save the grey image as a PSD file called "Displace". OK. Now open up both your David file (in color), the tribal tat designs and the jeans or shorts... We first of all want to select a tattoo to use. I would reccomend getting the design using the "Extract" option in the filters menu. Select the tatoo and copy/paste it into your David image. Now comes the fun part. Place the tat anywhere on the body and size it up to what you think looks good. Now go to Filter->Distort->Displace and keep the settings as they appear. Click ok and a dialog box oughta come up asking you to select a displacement map. Remember the file we saved right at the start? Select that and click OK. The tattoo oughta now have wrapped around the portion of our David behind it, fitting to the contours to look like a real tattoo... To add to the effect, bring down the opacity of the tattoo layer to around 70%. Keep doing this till you're satisfied. Now go through the same procedure iwth the clothes etc (apart from the opacity change). If the shorts or pants seem to be a lil badly fitted onto David, use the free transform tool to shape them around his body and voila! you've made a modern sculpture. |
