I missed that show last night. I'll have to catch the re-run.

What was your overall opinion of the discovery?

I see it this way, if they found his tomb, so what? Does it REALLY change anything? It says he rose from the dead 3 days later, maybe he did, THEN he died and his soul left. I posted about this on UM. Does he really need his body to sit at the right hand of God in Heaven? Heaven is in space it's pretty doubtful a body would make it there anyway (unless he like went in a spaceship lol) and the soul is made of electrical enregy, so it IS a form of matter.

I think what it does prove is the fact that he was a real man and that he did live, I have heard alot of people who think he was not even real and that the chruch made the man and the story up....

I've had a good look at this and the archaeological evidence is that there is a family tomb containing ossaries which are inscribed in Hebrew with names that could be related to Jesus..

I have a few questions from that though..

Has any dating been carried out on the tombs, and relative dating on the tomb style and any artefacts that have been found to try and narrow the date?

The majority of experts on the show seem to be biblical scholars with one archaeologist which I find concerning, due to the possible slanting of the evidence..

However without watching the program I can't give a proper opinion

Well, reaching back into the dim recesses of my mind, I seem to recall that after Jesus arose from the dead, and put in several appearances to the disciples, he "arose into heaven" within sight of said disciples.

So, if that is true, then how could he leave mortal remains behind?

Assuming, for the moment, that they did find the bones of Jesus, wouldn't that make the claim that he was the son of god a little suspect?

A fair point.. and the reason there is so much controversy over biblical archaeology.

I think that with the problem may lie in the assertion that a physical body could rise up, surely it doesn't matter if they found the bones? If you still believe what Jesus was trying to represent, perhaps they misinterpreted what happened all that time ago?

As I'm not religious I could be barking up the wrong tree though
