Snipers put Sydney pedestrians on alert

Sydney residents walking to work across the Harbour Bridge this morning were greeted by an unexpected passer-by — an airborne sniper with his gun apparently trained on pedestrians.

As the massive APEC security operation continued across Sydney Harbour this morning, the police helicopter hovered alongside the bridge's walkway for about 30 seconds, witnesses said.

One pedestrian, Kirribilli resident and ninemsn employee Amy McIntosh, said a sunglasses-wearing sniper was sitting with his legs dangling out of the chopper and his gun pointed at people on the bridge.
