Should everyone have a living will?
No I think that we should leave life to fate?I think it ensures our safety in an emergency?Nobody should have a choice whether to save my life or not, except the doctor?Don't care either way if they pull the plug or not. 0 (0%)

The Living Will; To be able to say pull the plug or not?

I often wonder about this topic because whenever someone goes to have surgery or if they are in a accident that is life threatening they are usually asked if they have a living will. Which is sort of an insurance that if you flat line they either let you go or put you on life support. What do you guys think you would choose. "To save or not to save that is the question?"

I'm actually on the fence on this one because if I can be revived I say go for it but if I'm revived and I'm a "veggie" for the rest of my life I really don't want to be revived.

It should be optional for everyone but personally, I'd like to have a will just in case.
Some things must be handled smoothly, quietly.

I have a living will, and my instructions to my daughter are, if I am to be a vegetable, use the power of attorney I gave her and go clean out my bank account, then tell the doctor to pull the plug. I figure that if this is the only life, then I will be well rid of it, if I can't be at least reasonably healthy. If as I think, that we are spiritual beings having a human experience, then let's get on with the show. "lets Party"

My mum's says because she's worked in a hospital she knows what happens to people when they become a veggie, and she says that she'd hate to have my brothers and i have to go threw the pain of seeing her like that and she wants me (only daughter, most trusted of her children :) ) to make the decision to pull the plug.... and i agree, hopefully i'll have children when i'm older and if i do i wouldn't want them to see me in that sort of state.

I have thought long and hard about this and I think it should be the choice of the individual.

I believe it should be up to the individual also. I have a living will that states that I will not be put on life support in the event of loss of brain function or the prognosis is dim, or quality of life is lost. I would rather just go then have a machine live for me. I have seen people on life support and they just dwindle as the days go by. Also putting your family through the trauma of watching and hoping that there is hope I personally think is cruel.

For instance, I know a couple right now that have a son who is on life support. He was in a bike accident (5) yrs ago. He will never speak again nor will he be able to move again, he is in a deep coma and the doctors claim that he probably will not ever come out of it. The amount of brain trauma he sustained in the accident has left him totally on life support. The mother and father vigilantly go and sit with him day after day. Making sure he is washed, fed the right nutrition through his feeding tube and also his diaper is changed. He recently had a birthday he is now 30 yrs old and his mother still holds hope that he will regain his former self even though the doctors claim he never will. Now is it cruel for the mother and father to keep him alive by artificial means just to make them feel better or in the same predicament would you take the life support off and let nature take it's rightful course in this situation? I would opt for letting my child go, for I know they wouldn't want to be like that for the rest of their life. Also I would feel selfish for hanging onto them knowing they will never be their former self. It would hurt me deeply and I would morn the loss of their lives for the rest of my life but I think it cruel to keep someone alive "When they don't even know they are alive."
