Komodo dragons Imagine being on a tropical island fishing. You get hungry, so you climb a fruit tree. You fall. Dazed, you sit for a moment to gather your wits … and are attacked by two of the world's largest lizards. That was the fate of an Indonesian man recently, who became the latest in an increasing (though still rare) number of attacks on humans by Komodo dragons. Komodos can reach 10 feet long and weigh 300 pounds. (Search for more on the story.) Muhamad Anwar died from loss of blood. Had he survived his wounds, he likely would have suffered the next most dangerous threat after a Komodo attack: infection from the 50 kinds of bacteria in a Komodo mouth. Here's more of what search reveals about Komodo dragons: Attacks: Although rare – only about 20 fatal attacks in the last century - there have been two in the last two years. The other was a 9-year-old boy. (Search for more.) In the wild: If you're brave enough to try to face one in the wild, they can be found in only five places: the islands of Komodo, Rinca, Flores, Gili Motang and Gili Dasami, all in Indonesia. There are only 4,000 in the wild, and they are considered endangered. Danger free: If you'd prefer an impassable barrier between you and the dragon, you can see them at the San Diego Zoo, the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle and the Palm Beach Zoo. And they're not the only ones. (Search for a zoo near you.) If you want to see babies, you may have to go farther. A zoo in Indonesia recently reported that 32 baby Komodos had been hatched. (Search for more.) Komodo diet: Watching a Komodo dragon eat, however, is not for the faint of heart. Ever see a lizard eat a deer, or a pig … whole? (Search, if you dare). They say you are what you eat. Ten percent of a Komodo dragon's diet is … other Komodos. (Search for why.) Size matters: They are the heaviest lizard in the world, but not the longest. (Search for the longest.) Komodo trivia: The arrival of a Komodo dragon exhibit in New York in the 1920s inspired what movie? (Search for the answer.) http://a-list.msn.com/default.aspx?cp-searchtext=Komodo%20dragon |

Wolves aren't all that bad..I had a friend who had one she named "Nakita"..he was a bit skittish but she was a vet tech and he had gotten hurt in a trap..she was mending him before setting him free. He was ok around females..but not males..AT ALLLLL! Very beautiful animal...he even let me pet him once. but they are wild animals and my friend wanted him not to be domesticated so not too much petting just fix him up and let him go...he comes back to her house all the time and just paces back and forth in her backyard as if to say.."Thank you"..but he won't come around anyone just stays back and is very skittish...if I can find the pics of him I'll post em... |

Ha! I'd love to see the pix if you find 'em! Wolves are so beautiful. I have a wolf pendant in silver made by Indians in Santa Fe. Mom got it for me about 10 years ago. |

I'm part Cherokee too-maybe an eighth. Dad was born in Texas, and his Great-Gramma had hair down past her butt. She remembered soldiers coming come from the Civil War. She was cool,Mom and Dad said, the only thing was she always got dressed if you turned the TV on. She figured if you could see them, they could see you.

i've always found these animals interesting.....but if you're in the area....you'd better beware cause you're trespassin i lived with a lady in VA beach that had a wolf as a pet....lovable animal....but her son and his wife had some that only they could go around, they had to be put up in their pen if anyone other than them was in the back yard.....very protective and not friendly except to them |

Gotta be careful keepin wolves. There was a lady who was breeding hybrid wolves in my area..Well one became Alpha. Which they always usually do...remember they are pack animals. Anyway she was feeding them and the one got aggressive with the other for the Alpha position and they tore her apart. It was terrible.they were actually eating her... |

I would want my attack Komodos if I had a castle and they would be another line of defense along with my Piranha filled moat. |
