I love action figures. These small plastic men and women have always been the fuel of my dreams, to be a super hero, a space adventurer, a soldier.............. But sometimes you want a little something more. Maybe the factory version of your favorite character sux. Maybe you've invented new characters. Maybe you think Snake-Eyes from GI Joe should be a Jedi Knight. Or maybe like me you think the Joe Team just needs more chicks! Anyway, I find it very satisfying and creatively fulfilling to make customs. There is a whole community on the Web devoted to the hobby, and specialized stores supplying everything from uber-detailed 1/18 weapons to fantastic newly-sculpted heads to create new characters. I've got about 30 customs on-the-go right now *no, I kid you not*, and I'll post a few pix when I get some done! I'm trying to get a Snake-Eyes "Unmasked" done on deadline for a contest, couple weeks to go, should be do-able!

I open almost all my toys. Free them! Free them from their plastic sarcophagi, I say! ![]() Thanks Di, Amelia. It's not that hard. It's more a matter of identifying a process and then sticking with it. I will post a pic soon. |

Still haven't finished Snake Eyes, but I've mocked up a lot of other characters. Also, here is a mock-up Filecard for a character I'm inventing named Black Rain:

Thanks, AR! ![]() The guns and knife are from Marauder Gun Runners, modified and painted by me. The Head is from Broken Arrow Toys, painted by me. I sculpted the shemagh scarf from epoxy putty, and toned parts of the Hasbro figure with paint. |

Sounds pretty complex. Art takes many forms of course. You should look at getting a job with marvel or DC. They can always use new characters, a good blurb and hell you could be on to a good thing there. |

Thank you, AR. This figure is a variation of one of the most popular GI Joe guys, but many of the customs I'm working up now are *my* character ideas.

I've joined another customizing contest, this time on BanthaSkull.com. The theme is to create a figure based in a "Post-Apocalyptic" world, be it Star Wars, GI Joe, Mad Max, Zombie Armageddon, what-have-you. Well, this theme gave me an idea for a whole squad of Joes both new and old, and stories to go with them- so here is the first piece I've written from Shall Not Perish...... No one now can be sure of the events that lead to the Breakup. Political stupidity. Lack of leadership. Terrorism, from garden variety to Cobra plot. Economic disruption. Hell, even the damned weather and that blasted Volcano wrecking the harvests. Whichever causes, we found ourselves in the Third World War before we knew it. And a major portion of the GI Joe Team, including my husband Flint, were left for dead behind Chinese lines. And he died there, saving what he could of the Team. Gung-Ho told me that, tears streaming down his face. Cobra smacked the rest of us down hard, when they hit our HQ. Too many friends and Teammates died or disappeared then. The rest of the world came apart then too. Nuclear weapons were used. Did Iran shoot first? Or the Chinese? Doesn’t matter really. STRATCOM splashed a few, but we still lost major cites. Millions dead. President Fox died too, and the VP is nowhere to be found. Some have said America is dead too. But GI Joe doesn’t agree. Not too many of us left now, but like Falcon told me when he promoted me to First Sergeant: “There are enough of us to make a difference. To make sure this world doesn’t forget GI Joe.” And I’m wearing one of your Berets, Flint my love. For you, and for our child growing in my womb. -from the Personal Journal of Allison R. Fairborne, Sgt. Major, US Army Code Name: Lady Jaye I've already pieced together my version of Lady Jaye, and I just got the head today that inspired me to do a older, battle scarred "Captain Falcon" as Team C.O. I want to do a motorcycle for LJ too, with packs and fuel cans attached to it. Like I said, I'm getting lots of ideas............hmm. There were originally 13 Joes in 1982 when they brought the toyline out. I guess I should do 13 too!
