Some people really feel your pain Source Researchers found that around one in three people actually feel physical discomfort when they see someone else in agony. The findings could explain why some people are more empathetic to other people's misery. Dr Stuart Derbyshire, a psychologist at the University of Birmingham, made the discovery after inviting 123 university students to watch video clips and photographs of patients and sports stars in painful situations. The videos included a footballer breaking his leg, a tennis player turning over his left ankle and a patient getting an injection in the hand All the students said that, for at least one of the images or videos, they had an "emotional reaction" - such as feeling sad, disgusted or fearful. But a third, also claimed to feel real pain in the same part of the body as the victim they were watching. Some experienced tingling or aching, others felt a heavy or stabbing pain. For some the pain was fleeting - others complained that it lasted for several seconds. A picture of an athlete running on a racetrack with a clearly broken leg generated the most physical pain in the students, the researchers reported in the journal Pain. The scientists then asked 10 of these 'hypersensitive' students to repeat the experiment while their brains were being scanned with fMRI - the functional magnetic resonance imaging used in hospitals. The results were compared with the scans from 10 people who said they felt nothing while looking at the upsetting images. The scientists found that while viewing the painful pictures, both groups showed activity in the parts of the brain that deal with emotions. However, those who said they felt physical pain showed greater activity in the parts of the brain that handle pain - suggesting that they sensations were genuine. |

I find this sort of information quite interesting. Pain, as I see it, is always a choice. For example, I can understand another's pain first hand by experiencing the energies they have classified as pain. Somewhere in my psyche I share their experience yet my choice can be to elevate my perception of the painful event. Those who are empaths can relate to those around them without suffering, once they learn to elevate their perspective about life, as I see it in any case. John |

Thanx for sharing John. I used to try and push feelings like that aside but realized unless I actually embrace a certain feeling and challenge it emotionally it would linger. Usually after the fact of recognizing someones state was when I myself discovered or learnt through study and experience does It make sense. Sharing examples of ones journey helps others to understand and can be an eye opener. |

I'm one of those people. I can actually feel other people's pain which is why I don't like violence. :/ |

I agree to this. Some people are really sensitive when it comes to the energies around them. They can easily sense loneliness, violence etc... around them. |

Being new, it's easy to be ignored, aalmost like one has to be punnished to see if one has the "stuff' to be a "real member" and find total acceptance. Words do just so much, behavior is the more guding rule. |

I'm sorry if you have felt ignored GH. I know that isn't a nice feeling. I tend to feel frustration a lot from others...in the grocery store, on the road, at the doctors office. Yes, I think I really do feel others pain sometimes too and to be honest it can be scary. Sometimes I just have to take a step back and separate what MY true feelings are and what is something I might be picking up and taking on from someone else. Hope that makes sense =/ |

I definitely feel something from other people. It's getting easier to manage since I talked with you guys about it in that other thread where I asked for advice. The other day though, at the Mall, it seems my shields were weaker for some reason. |
