I was telling you guys I just got the 1/72 scale VF-25G Messiah Valkyrie from Macross Frontier to add to my collection. OMG-you wouldn't believe how complex this kit is! If the batteries in my camera hadn't died (grr) I would show you what a monster this thing is. Plus, after reading some threads on the MacrossWorld Forum about these kits and how frustrating they can be-even wmcheng, the guy we call Master Cheng because he's such a good modeler, had difficulties with his Messiah Valkyrie-I'm afraid even to start the kit.

But I'm really, really wanting to build a Valkyrie.

Modeling is both fun and relaxing for me, and i feel better if I do at least a little work on a model every day. I've been making good progress on the Star Trek kit I got for my birthday, the 1/1400 scale Ambassador-class Starship (like Enterprise-C from the TNG episode "Yesterday's Enterprise"). I even got custom-printed decals to do my own ship idea USS Patton. But I'm just as big a Macross fan as I am a Trekkie. So I went through my kit stash and pulled out a couple of victims candidates. I've even assemble one of my "Macross Stands" so I can display a Valkyrie as if it was in flight.

My candidates are:

VF-1S "Strike" Valkyrie,a VF modified with FAST Packs for space combat

and

VF-1J "Milia Special",the personal fighter of ace Milia Farina-Jenius
Posted Image

So,what the Hell,I'll build them both! :) I just found today,Studio Starforge in Australia makes Macross pilot figures, male and female, in this 1/72 scale (a person is about an inch tall). So in a couple weeks,I'll have a little Milia to fly her VF-1J! :)

More about my modeling adventures soon!

Note: No,I won't stop talking about Macross until
a) You all become fans
B) Tara shoots stops me!

I got batteries, so I can post pix soon. Hopefully the new female pilot figures I ordered will come this week, so I can push ahead on the Milia Type. :)

Yatte! I got my Macross pilot figures from Starforge Studios! 2 weeks from Austrailia by post, not bad at all. These figures are great, because they are male and female pilots in "TV Style" flightsuits, while the pilots I already had from Hasegawa (very nice figures) are all males and in the movie-style gear from Do You Remember Love, the beautiful Macross movie. I'm jazzed especially because the set comes with female pilots that are perfect to portray Milia Jenius, so now I'm making some real progress on the red Miliatype VF-1J.

I'm going to display the kit as Milia waiting as patiently as she can for takeoff, while the groundcrew completes final checks. I now have everything I need, and the kit is proceeding slowly but nicely. One question I have is how to paint the red jet to make it look realistic. It shouldn't be glossy like a race car. The Japanese Air Force had a special F-15J a few years ago called "Cherry Blossom" that might be a good guide.

Ganbatte yo!

Yatte! I just got one of my "Holy Grails" for Macross model kits: 1/72 scale VF-4G.

The VF-4 only appeared in the animation once, briefly, in Macross Flashback 2012 ( and a few of the Japan-only video games) and I fell in love with it years ago. It's in scale with my collection and even came with a pilot in the proper flightsuit! :)

I'm so jazzed!

Do I have a headache! I was painting the nose-gear well on a VF-22S and all that close work and concentration wears on you.

The parts look like crap now, but they might look better in the morning. Didn't I say I do this for relaxation? :grumble:

I kid!

EDIT:It's amazing what a couple Tylenol and 30 minutes drying will do. That gear well doesn't look bad at all. Besides, it's on the underside of the Variable Fighter, and if I do it right you'll be too busy looking at the top to notice the gear wells!

I forgot. This:

is the fighter I'm talking about. It's a VF-22S used by Milia in the last part of Macross 7. I have one for Max too (of course  ), but his will be posed in-flight on a stand. Milia's will be with open canopy, Milia in the cockpit, while techs do the final checks for start-up. Figured since I was doing her VF-1J, might as well do her (so far) last VF as well. :)

OK, I lied changed my mind. The gearwell looked like crap so I stripped the paint with rubbing alcohol and an old toothbrush. Just another advantage of acrylic paint!

Hand-brushing these parts just ain't gonna work. That means digging out my airbrush. I have an Aztec 870 double-action that's as frustrating as hell to use, but my friend Glen found me a specialized acrylic tip for it that might make things easier. I'll try it soon.

If it's still frustrating, I'm getting a different one. I'm too old to allow frustrating tools to effect my hobby. :)

Work proceeds slowly. I need to test that Aztec airbrush with the acrylic nozzle, I'm feeling more optimistic about it, but the weather this week has been very windy and made painting impossible.

I got some assembly and cleanup done, though, along with a lot of thinking and planning, which are important things for a modeler! :)

Complex, yes? This might be my most complex kit. :) Since then, I've found Sheryl Deculture decals as well! I need Alto's white VF-25F for those.

I'm so jazzed - I've got my airbrush working! :)

This miniature spray gun used to clog up when spraying acrylic paint, but the new tip my friend Glen got for me has taken care of that. :) After some practice, I should be putting beautiful paint coats on my model kits!
