http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/space/7962664/Vast-solar-system-found-127-light-years-away.html A vast solar system of seven planets orbiting a sun-like star has been discovered 127 light years from Earth. The planetary system is believed to be the largest ever detected beyond the sun. Astronomers have confirmed the presence of five planets and have tantalising evidence of two more. The distance of the planets from their parent star follow a regular pattern, similar to that seen in our own solar system. ''We have found what is most likely the system with the most planets yet discovered,'' said Dr Christophe Lovis, who led the European southern Observatory (ESO) scientists. ''This remarkable discovery also highlights the fact that we are now entering a new era in exoplanet research: the study of complex planetary systems and not just of individual planets. How very interesting. Seems our solar system isn't so unique as previously thought after all. |

Pickle barrel, pickle barrel, Kumquat!

Awesome! I wonder if any of these planets are in their star's "lifezone"? I still hope that the universe is full of life. |

From the physical evidence I am aware of, life itself is a sure thing, Max. Stage of development will vary. We Homo sapien sapiens have been around almost no time at all. Perhaps it would have been better if intelligent alien life hadn't found us, or perhaps IAL founded us. Edited by LarryOldtimer, Aug 27 2010, 05:56 PM.
