LOS ANGELES (AP) - A computer specialist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory is going to court over allegations that he was wrongfully terminated because of his belief in intelligent design. David Coppedge sued JPL after he was demoted and then let go. Openings statements in the trial are expected Monday afternoon in Los Angeles. Coppedge claims he was discriminated against because he handed out DVDs about intelligent design to co-workers. He lost his "team lead" title in 2009 and was let go last year. JPL denies any discrimination and says Coppedge had conflicts with others and poor reviews. Intelligent design supporters believe a higher power had a hand in creation because life is too complex to have developed through evolution alone. Coppedge worked on the Cassini mission exploring Saturn and its moons. SOURCE:YahooNews I dunno...I believe God designed the Universe, but I wouldn't want to talk about it, or any religion, at work. Couldn't it be this guy was fired for making people uncomfortable at work, and not for his beliefs? |

Oh well. I have been convinced that if a god designed humans, that god made a dog's breakfast out of it. I.e., a rather poor designer, with little knowledge of the nature of human beings. Darwin's concept of evolution has had no evidence to support it. |

Larry, I'm interested in why you say that about the Theory of Evolution. I'm always interested with anything that's against the dogma of Big Science. |

The dogma of Big Science has been wrong far more times than right. Great discoveries have always been first discovered by individuals, bucking scientists of note. That there certainly has been evolution (only probable) is not to be doubted . . . it is just that no one has found the cause of it, and there have been many seekers. One of the difficulties comes from the fact that for any species, there is a minimum "herd size", without enough of the same kind (lots), the species will quickly become extinct. Another problem is . . . simply math called laws of probability . . . once DNA was discovered, the probability of gradual evolution happening "approached zero" for only a single species, let alone the millions of species on this planet. |

Do you mean because DNA "fixes" or "blueprints" a creature's characteristics? |

The human brain is a very complex organic computer. When DNA was first discovered, if the 4 elememts of it would have been labeled "0, 1, 2 and 3", it would be obvious that the entirety of DNA is actully a program written in base 4, instead of the usual binary code. So . . . on DNA is written the entire code to grow a human, including the growing from a fetus to an adult human being . . . and every facet along the growth period. You and every other human are what your very detailed and personal DNA code decreed. So don't blame yourself for whatever, it was never your choice to begin with. What is yet to be discovered is the nature of the mind and how it works. Or even where or how it might have been acquired. Edited by LarryOldtimer, Mar 16 2012, 03:40 PM.

Very profound points, Larry. My brother, a programmer for a well-known software giant, likes to say "don't worry about Artificial Intelligence being created. We don't know enough about how regular intelligence was created to copy it yet." |
