Regional Constitution; just a thought

Permit me to introduce myself on behalf of my 5 million citizen's; we were just this morning accepted into the UN...

Hence, we voted against the police state (which corresponds to my PERSONAL feelings about "police states - in the words of Mickey Rourke in the movie BARFLY: "...I don't HATE cops, I just seem to feel better when they're not around...")

We use our "mini-prop" to publish the "FACTS" about our NationState, such as an excessively high income tax of 70% (which keeps the capitalists out!) but in reality, we have no income tax - all of our citizen's voluntarily contribute either a flat 10% of their income or they dedicate themselves to a period of government service (ususally one year).

We have no wars and don't participate in RC's - we're rather insular, but wish to share the benefits of OUR productive, happy and benevolent society within "The Exodus."

I wish to thank Avenging Angels for their warm invitation to join this lovely region and want to extend to you all my hopes for a long, productive and mutually beneficial relationship...any assistance, pointers, tips and gaming advice is taken under consideration and "I'll have MY people call YOUR people..." LOL

(Any other MOVIE fanatix out there?)

Warm Regards to you all,
HMS MagesseT (Her Most Sovereign Majesty)

I suppose I could be considered a movie buff of some sorts, but I am sure you are much more of a movie fanatic then I am. ;)

I see you are interested in Psychology. I am currently a teaching and evironmental science major. Psychology is very interesting, and I also find sociology to be quite intriguing. :ph43r:

Hiya! Just wanted to say hi. We are the angels of fire. Everyone knows that a serpent in the bible gave eve the apple, triking her into eating it and learning the knowledge of good and evil, which was forbidden. That snake belonged to our cuisins, the angels of darkness. We are the fire snakes, those that remained true to God. Were our cuisins bring lies, power and welth, we bring truth, happyness, and death. :) Ok, so we can't spell, what do you expect? were snakes! Of course humans think of us more as draggons, for we have legs and don't need to crawl around on our bellies like the pitiful Lucifer fallowers. We also have wings and breath fire. :P Sometimes that can get anoying when we have beans int he night, and some of us get the hicups. :P

Anyway, the rulers of our nation is the Alp'meg. The queen is Fi'len'gi

Ok OOC now. Hiya! im new here as ya know. Im a fun lover. I branched out from a lot of other forums because I love to talk. Apearently this can be a problem if I focas my talking all on one forum. People get anoyed. :P So I try to spread myself out. Im in 23 regions on nationstates. I have been playing NS for 1 1/2 years. Wahooo! I was both in the news region Associated press(before someone got wise and made a forum that sorta nocked the point out our region. >:( ) and I made the directory 000 looking for a new region. Well that should give qaulifications. I don't rp to much, though I used to. Really just can't wait to get out there and meetcha. :) Oh yes, and my friends just call me rose, you don't have to type out Angels of fire, or I could be called Fire. Whatever its cool with me. :) So ye. hiya!

High everyone, we are The Most Serene Republic of the Gun Bearing Pot Smokers, when you are born in our nation your mother is rewarded with a 357 and a bong for you to use once you are of age 5 which is when you start attending mandatory military school, and the mandatory bong hitting program.
We believe in free trade with other countries our motto is "You want pot or bullets, we got em". Farming is strongly encoraged, for we do not believe in social programs, other then for the inept or severely handicapped.
We believe that the Government should stay out of our homes, which is why we train everyone militarily, so they can stand up for themselves and not let the Government rule them. If the people vote for purple hat Fridays, by God, the government will institute it.
We are a religiously open society, we encourage all types of religions, as long as they do no harm to others or themselves.
We endorse procreation, abortion is murder, and completely illegal in our society.
All acts of kindness and good heartedness are rewarded.
We do not descriminate against anyone colour, creed, religion, sexuality, or hair style.
We do not believe in crime in our country, being that everyone is armed, it is almost non-existant. Our punishment for crime is public humiliation, kind of a mark of Cain, or an eye for an eye, depending on the severity of the crime.

This is our country, I hope we are still welcome in The Exodus

Why not establish a regional constitution and have it ratified by the member nations. We could even choose an existing constitution to model it after:

Well, I remember in Ille de France, when a constitution was proposed, we took a vote and the region decided (by about 3 to 1) that the British system of an unwritten constitution is better.
It is of course a lot more simple as well.

In the early days of this region this issue had been brought up and people seemed to have favored not having a constitution. But, I welcome the issue to be brought up again. We have grown a lot since those early days, lets see what everyone thinks. :):)

I still wouldn't've thought that you would need one. However, with the increasing complexity of the Exodus' government, you need to set out the boundaries of each position, which I believe will require a written Constitution.

its a really cool name! LOL. mines from a poem. :)

They came with death and destruction,
Pulling up the trees by their roots,
Taking the water from the seas with holy suction,
Digging up the earth from under mens boots,

"What are these things of blood and fire,
The men asked in dread,
realizing their fate was most dire,
Fearing they soon would be dead.

Arize holy angels of fire,
Draggons of God and of death,
Turn all the earth into a stinking mire,
With your burning acidy breath.

:) after I read that I couldn't get teh idea of a nation of fire draggons out of my mind, thus this nation was created.

I would suggest a basic government code opposed to an indepth constitution.

It is the opinion of the Governmental Collective that the 'British system of unwritten constitution' is misleading terminology. Since Her Majesty's Government are not bound by a consitution written or unwritten there is no system as such in place. The absence of a constitution allows for enormous amounts of power to be channelled through the high court and the Prime Minister's office and more specifically, the personalities involved with and holding such offices. Therefore the British 'system', is undemocratic as it allows large amounts of the law of the nation to be made up at the whim of personalities who are both fallable and corruptable. It is, also, needlessly complicated and beaurocratic, as points of law are constantly argued out between the high court, the house of lords, the home office, and the electorate. If it is the opinion of the forum that a 'code of laws' is less in-depth and less specific than a constitution, and therefore more desirable, we suggest that we begin putting forward suggestions for the content of any hypothetical legal document and work out how in-depth we would like it to be from there.

Well stated position. Well seeing as how we need to decide this sooner than later, my suggestion would be after the next round of elections, we should set up the senate(if we want one) then start the process of writting the rules and regs down. In my opinon, we will always fight and bicker, seeing as how people are and always will be different. But the point is to come to an agreement in which MOST of the nations agree on. :)

I say we set up some basic rules and regulations for the region, but nothing as official as a constitution. I like the idea of runing things by the spirit of the law and not the letter of the law. To many times in the US people debate about the wording of laws and this hurts the integrity of our laws.

^ Um it seems to me this whole constitution vs. basic rules and regulations seems to be just a mincing of words. A constitution is a set of rules that define the powers of a government and how it works. Frankly considering the complexity of the Exodus Government a writen constitution probably is not a bad idea.

Don't ever count me out!

Maybe a constitution is something we need to consider. <_< With the problems as of late, a written set of rules and laws could prevent future outbreaks, or at least give us a clear directive in solving any future incidences. :)
