Here are the recent posts on the RMB about the Diplomat position: 13 hours ago The Republic of Pitts Park Can KittieKat still hold the position of Diplomat if she no longer is a member of the UN? Or perhaps a better question is, is the position of Diplomat something this region actually needs? I in no way am trying to single out KittieKat here, it just seems that really the last few Diplomats haven't really done too much unless there's a lot going on behind the scenes that I don't know about, which is entirely possible. As far as I'm concerned, KittieKat can keep her position, I was just wondering if that was breaking some sort of rule or if we actually need a Diplomat. 10 hours ago The Open-Source Government of Switzerstan Just because the position is appointed by the delegate, that doesn't necessarily mean that it should require UN membership. The constitution doesn't say about the diplomat needing to be in the UN (or anything else about the position). So without any rules about it the Diplomat's duties are kind of vague, but as I see it they're directed more towards foreign relations than things involving the UN. Maybe in the future we should move it under the Minister of Foreign Relations. But for now it's under the delegate's authority. As delegate I say KittieKat should stay on as long as she likes, UN member or not. As for your second question, I think it's a position with good potential that just needs to be defined and focused. I think part of the lack of highly visible action is because diplomats aren't sure what authority they have. (Lykle or KittieKat, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.) 9 hours ago The Holy Empire of KittieKat I don't see where it is needed for the Dip to be part of the UN. but if AA comes and says that the Dip should be then I will rejoin the UN even though I don't agree with over half of the proposals it passes. and I have been doing some foreign relations as of late but if we did fine tune it more I wouldn't oppose, cause like Switz said it's really not known what we should be doing.4 hours ago The Colony of Soxx I think Kat does more than you think Pitts. And it does sound as it you are singling her out. no where that I have read says she has to be in the UN, as for she is not the UN Delegate who has to be in the UN. though I do have to agree that the role of the position could be defined a bit better, though I do believe she is only the 3rd to hold the position. |

I don't have much time right now, but let me quickly respond. I am not at all singling out KittieKat. As you can see I continue to support her keeping the position regardless of her UN status. I was merely raising some questions that seem to me to be unanswered by our Constitution. I recall Lykle saying when he resigned from the Diplomat position that he didn't do really anything. I don't blame this inactivity on Lykle or KittieKat or any particular Diplomat, I blame it on the position of Diplomat. If I'm wrong about this inactivity, please correct me. The Constitution appears to not even make a reference to the Diplomat---again correct me if I'm wrong. So I'm only asking the question of whether it's something we really need. And I was asking hte question about KittieKat's eligibility again because there seems to be no official answer and it seemed strange to me for the second in command to the UN Delegate to not be a member of the UN. I'm not trying to reach any conclusions here, I'm merely seeking the opinions of others and asking for some things to be better defined. OK, I have to go to work now, I'll check back in on this matter when I get back from work. |

READ THIS! It will answer all your questions...The Diplomat is an advisor to the Delegate..no more no less....that is why they are selected by the Delegate... |

I do not see being a UN member as essential to being our diplomat. It may help or it may not. Just because you belong to the UN does not mean you better comprehend UN issues then a non UN member. Kittiekat has been in the UN and therefore has some UN experience. I therefore believe she should be allowed to stay in her current role as diplomat. |

Public opinion notwithstanding....it had been decided and used for nearly 7 months..and again we have a nation here...when the shit isn't exactly as they see it it's felt that it needs to be thrown at the person who did nothing more than accept the job and responsibilities and do the best they can...YOU did in fact single out Kat...you never brought this DR or Lykle where in the position...only Kat...why? You hide behind this 'I'm only doing what I think is best' bullshit...you brought up the fact that something like this should ONLY be brought up on the forum, that the RMB is not the appropriate place for it..yet there you were...pushing your (and somebody elses) agenda on the RMB..pick a stance and stay with it... Yes you can ask questions, yes you can have a different opinion then others, yes the system is not perfect, yes I know I can be an asshole, yes I do things like this opn purpose, yes I don't like you or your collegue Beestonia, yes I will fight you at every turn as long as you keep trying to force your will upon the region without going thru the proper channels (ie put it up for vote), yes Kat is my friend and I will defend her, yes I know she is capable of defending herself, yes this is an obnoxious way of proving a point, yes I know I'll get hell for it, and finally, YES IT'S A DEAD ISSUE WITH ME! |

The Delegate is an advisor to the Diplomat. They are not required to be in the UN. The only Government official required to be in the UN is the Diplomat themselves. |

I think you meant to say the only one required was the delegate to be in the UN. But, yes you are right Avs.

I think it's a little from column A and a little from column B. ![]() Teasing of Avs aside, I don't see why the Diplomat needs to be in the UN. As has been pointed out, the position is one to advise the Delegate. One doesn't need to be a UN member to provide advice. When we were deciding what qualifications were needed to hold office in the region, it was agreed upon that other than the Delegate position itself (for obvious reasons), no position would require UN membership. And yes, the Constitution has nothing to say about the Diplomat position because the Senate experienced a collective "senior moment" during the revision process. Anyone is more than welcome to submit an amendment to clarify the responsibilities of the position, if they so wish. |

Whoa... where have I been the last couple of days?! EA... Tone down the rhetoric. Before you turn things personal against me (as usual), you didn't even bother to hear a statement from me. Why would you imply I had something to do with this when I have made NO COMMENTS WHATSOEVER regarding the issue, ever??? You say you will fight me at every turn? Go ahead, asshole!! I hope you enjoy yourself, just as I will , watching you make a spectacle of yourself "at every turn". Moving on, then. The Diplomat position is simply an advisor to the delegate. That was my main function under Pangeaa (another one of those pesky "collegues" EA so loosely refers to). It is not, I believe, imperative to hold UN membership. And contrary to some suggestions, I have absolutely nothing against our current diplomat! As a matter of fact, I would like to congratulate Kat on making the position more visible than it has been in the past. Keep up the good work! -Beestonia. |

I do agree with most of what EA said. Beestonia could have been left out of this, as he had nothing to do with the diplomat argument. We are a free flowing region, and we welcome change. As anyone can attest to. The region has changed a lot since its beginnings. There has been growing frustration that these arguments have become counter productive because everything that happens these days seems to be challenged. I suppose this is the downfall of democracy, but at what point does this hurt the workings of the region rather then help the region. I guess we should ask ourselves what is worth challenging, is it something that is major or something very minor. All we ask is read all the pertinent documents on how things run before you make posts or challenge the workings of the region. Though this was unique case seeing as the diplomat was left out of the regions consitution. I am not sure why this was even brought up on the RMB since many people felt strongly that this be kept to our forum. I am glad that this was moved quickly to the RMB. I am closing this thread seeing as this seems to have been decided upon already. Kittiekat is eligible and willing to stay on as diplomat. |
