Nintendo has just announced that the price on the 3DS will drop to $169.99 stateside on August 12. That's down from $250 currently, which we don't have to tell you is a pretty shocking drop, considering the tech involved and how recently the system was released.

yeah it's not selling well. And if you did buy it early, like me, they're gonna give you 20 free virtual console games (some that won't be made available to the general public). Not sure if that makes up for the $80 though.

Just watched a video from Ninbuzz, if you're registered to the E-Shop prior to August 12 you get 10 free NES games, and by then end of 2011 (same requirements, registered to E-Shop prior to August 12) you get 10 free GBA games.

According to GBATemp, Satoru Iwata's taking reponsibility for the price cut/3DS' poor sales, and is taking a 50% salary cut to offset losses. Dayum.
