The Heist RPG is, at its core, a cinematic experience. Playing the Heist, you will interact with the world in ways most RPGs can’t offer.

The separate games: the game is broken up into two parts: the cop half and the robber half. All character who choose to be a part of the MCPD will play in the cop part of the game, investigating the robbery. All players who play the robber part will attempt to pull off the crime of the century. The game will not begin until a sufficient amount of people have joined and submitted character applications (MUST BE SUBMITTED AS A PM!). There is one section shared by the groups: the “shared info” section. This is where you can read news reports from Mega City’s newspaper, review the Mega City map, or something else that might show up. A list of game-specific threads can be found in the first categories of each game.

EVENTS: Unlike most RPGs, the Heist is not played as a single thread, but multiple ones. When a new event begins, like an interrogation or a meeting in public, a new thread must be opened by a character. For example, if Dan Smith, a cop, is reviewing forensic evidence, he must find the appropriate section (the “forensics lab” folder can be found in the “Precinct” folder, which is only in the “Cop Story” folder. Smith’s user would start a new thread entitled “Fiber check-brown hair”, or something of the sort. If Sam Super, a robber, decides to talk to an informant at a bar, he would go to “public places” in the “Robber Story” section, and write “Bar-informant meet” or something like that. A section to store all information is included in both sides. The “Database” function is where all material evidence can be found for cops (if a police officer is killed before returning to the precinct, the info he has not posted will not show up. If data is not put into the database by the character, the other police officers can not find it. The same goes for the robber source). The info robbers will need is found in the “Drawing Board” folder. When putting info here, post a reply in the section- the admin will update the board before deleting the post.

Interacting with NPCs: throughout the game, players will be forced to interact with Non-playable characters, who will be controlled by the admin. Their actions, as such, will not be based on normal standards. Since the game is broken into two halves, a hint of mystery is added to the game, as nobody will be able to identify a character by their username. For example, if a policeman in the “cop” game is interrogating someone, it might be either an NPC, or one of the players in the “robbers” game, since the admin will be transferring responses on both sides. In essence, it may look like the situation detailed below. Note that the police officer does not see John Doe crossing his fingers and he would not know the difference between him and an NPC.

FOR THE COP:

Post by user notreal14: Clint had already done a background check on the perp- one John Doe- and determined that he worked in a small copy shop on the east side of town.
“Where were you Christmas Eve at 3:15?” he asked quietly, leaning on the table.

Post by admin Frost12: “At home with my family.” John Doe replied with confidence, slouching in his chair.

FOR THE ROBBER:

Post by user alsofake333: John had been in the room for hours, and his mouth was dry. The police officer in front of him was not helping the matter at all.

Post by admin Frost12:
The cop leaned on the table and asked,
“Where were you Christmas Eve at 3:15?”

Post by alsofake333: “At home with my family,” John said with confidence, crossing his fingers behind his back as he slouched back in his chair.

GOING PLACES: A map to part of Mega City can be found in the “Shared Info” section, and all of the places can be visited in-game. The admin will design a layout for any areas visited and it will be the same for both sides. The MCBL building is the only one mapped out by the beginning of the game. There is no limit to the map outside the area, but the admin must okay any new additions to the game map.

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES: If anything in the game occurs that might change the way it is played, this is called “special circumstances”. For example, if a character is in a situation decided by chance, rather than skill, something will be done to compensate. For example, if a robber flips a coin to decide the fate of another character, the admin will flip a real coin to determine the chance, and the game will then go into a sudden death type turn in which only relative characters participate (it will be decided) in it. Afterwards, the game will go back to its original format.

CHARACTER DEATH: if a character dies in-game, then the user who plays him will not be permitted to continue playing the game. They can, however, continue to monitor progress in their game, and they can still post in the non-game forums. ONLY NEW MEMBERS CAN CREATE NEW CHARACTERS! This may seem unfair, but it is the only way to ensure the secrecy of in-game identities.

ENDINGS: Once both games have concluded, endings will be posted based on the outcome of the combined games. All characters will have their own endings, accompanied by an overall ending for both sides.

FUTURE: If the first RPG goes well, then the possibility of a second may follow, if people are up for it.
