2018 hunting plans

well for those that do still come here, whats the hunting plans for this year? any big trips lined up
I am heading back to South Africa for my third trip, this time with the wife, she will do some local site seeing stuff while i do some hunting and plan on climbing a mountain while there. There are some caves on this mountain that have some cave paintings going back many years, and while i have seen my fair share of street art in Detroit and Chicago i really want to see where it all started lol.
Will be doing a cull hunt to keep the costs down, but also want a particular Kudu that we saw last year but couldn't close the deal. The SA hunts aren't all what they show on TV either, i really need to be in shape for some of the hills the PH takes me up, lots of walking and stalking. But the mountain is my goal this year so hope the weather cooperates and my body holds together
I did ask the PH to find out about doing the shark cage thing with the Great Whites, will see if we can pull that off, have a go pro that i will certainly strap on for that if it happens
Still looking at a Newf moose hunt, but might have to put that on hold since i am not sure about work, and of course the deer hunt in NWO, with the amount of 2.5yr old bucks i saw last year am hoping for some bigger and more mature bucks this fall

Not trying to put another nail in the coffin for this site but where do you go to get your hunting fix other than fakebook since this place is mostly dead ?
I usually hit Bowsite, Michigan Sportsman, Excaliber forum, Gobblernation, huntingnet but its pretty quiet too .
Anything new for ontario any others worth checking out ?

Just thinking of number of hunting group break ups over the years, some I,ve belonged to and some not a member of. Our group broke up once because it got too big for available property. This was caused by some members wanting to bring friends along to the hunt. This caused problems for our 8 man group when 12 to 15 would show up to hunt our small 50 to 200 acres properties with out notice. We lost 2 of the original group who left with their friends. A lot of hard feelings when they went behind our backs and tried to lease our properties. This was with our local dogging group.
At our camp up north we had a couple of break ups. One because a couple of members wanted to bring their wives up.The camp had only 2 rooms ,Spam - Please Delete eating area and sleeping room with 5 bunk beds. They had choice to bring trailer in for them or build addition to camp but didn,t want to spend money. We bought out their shares to settle this. We got 2 new members and one was kicked out as he turned out to be an alcoholic and was found to be drunk on stand while running dogs.
I know of a group that kicked a guy out who was caught poaching [jack lighting] on the way to their camp the day before the season opened. Members here probably have had other reasons for group break ups
The spam bit should read Spam - Please Delete and eating area
Spam - Please Delete
will not let me say k same as dining area

The Rut

I believe the rut starts mid way through the Nov gun hunt. I have suspected that the timing of the gun hunt or Control Hunt in Southern Ontario starts before the bucks get really active. This can be confirmed by activity as seen on my trail cams. Next year I will start hunting mid week of the gun hunt and hunting into the next week, splitting it with gun first the following with bow hunting.
It is nice hunting when the dear are moving around and not gone nocturnal.
As anyone else notice the same?

Well, the rut has not started in southern Ontario. I retrieved my game camera memory stick, it has a lot of activity, Bucks and Does in the same pictures, with no hint of rutting activity. I have not even seen any Bucks wandering around looking. I have not seen many scrapes or rubs, but have not really been looking all that hard.
Has anyone seen any activity?

First Tom and then Gord... I saw a Hip concert many moons ago but never gained appreciation of there talent until a few years ago. I am a person that loves live music and not to many bands sound better live then on filtered radio or cd... the Hip was one one of those bands to see live and feel the energy...
