OFAH. Lol ya that's a whole other topic not worth getting into. We have little to help as far as fighting for hunting rights. Hunting shows are all bogus that are all about advertising products. Magazines are the same all advertising products . Majority vote usually wins in everything And yes ray I see where it says it COULD change after the first season . But I also read where the mnr said there not sure if this two year resident hunt will work or not there not sure ? Wtf is that about ? How can a resident hunt that will decrease the bear numbers not be a step in the right direction ? Do the honestly think a bear hunt will increase the bear numbers and just make the problem worse ? I'm all for hunters rights. I'm not the one taking anyone's hunting rights away. No one on this forum is my enemy ( except for a couple CO,s that frequent here in disguise ) I'm not the bad guy but I know first hand how the mnr work ( guided by the government or not ) had lots of meetings and encounters with them . At one time the mnr was considering reducing the number of non resident deer hunters. There was a meeting with the mnr about this ( that I personally put together between the mnr and the guys who just buy guide liscenses) It's was me that requested this meeting so we could have our day in court and all speak and be heard . At the meeting i find out that the mnr was thinking maybe reducing the weeks for the non resident gun season to reduce the nbers of non resident deer hunters. I said there was only two weeks for non residents and they wanted to reduce that ? I was then told by a woman from the mnr that I was wrong and the non residents had 6 weeks of rifle sea |

I said there was only two weeks for non residents and they wanted to reduce that ? I was then told by a woman from the mnr that I was wrong and the non residents had 6 weeks of rifle season the same as me . I looked at the district manager pointed my finger at this woman and said what's she doing here ? The district manager cleared his throat and then told the woman she was in fact wrong and that I was right . ??? Ok tell me something they were coming to a meeting to discuss these issues and they themselves can't even get on the same page and get simple facts straight that are in the regulations ? And to think this woman had no clue about the length of the non resident rifle season and she was all for reducing it ? It blows my mind on just how misguided and uneducated the mnr can be on the most simplest of facts . Later down the road I butted heads again with this woman on another issue in her own office and then she did it lol she made her biggest mistake ever . She was from eastern ontario and told me that she herself was AGAINST HUNING ? I told her I had nothing further to say to her , I left her office and went straight to the district managers office . I told him he had a huge conflict of interest in his department , I told him what she said and he was speechless . She was transferred . So ya I know the goings on in the mnr , I've made serious accusations, pointed my finger and held nothing back . Unfortunately any and all my dealings with the mnr fell on deaf ears. Was a waste of my time and efforts |

I hope you all realize what I'm doing. I have a spring hunt! This hunt in MY area is a done deal. What I'm trying to do here is do everything I possibly can to give ALL of us back what is rightfully ours and a much better management tool across Ontario to deal with the ever increasing over population of bears. Just wanted to make sure you all remember what I'm about. |

No harm done ray. Not the first debate on the forum probably not the last . I appreciate what your doing never said I didn't . Your desire in this shows and you are not wrong . I wish I had that same desire as you do on this but I've washed the stink of the mnr off my hands awhile ago . No harm done ray. Not the first debate on the forum probably not the last . I appreciate what your doing never said I didn't . Your desire in this shows and you are not wrong . I wish I had that same desire as you do on this but I've washed the stink of the mnr off my hands awhile ago . For me it was a battle with them on everything from spring bear season to deer seasons to non resident season to guide licences to tent camp permits to road closures the list goes on and on. You can't win with them. I truely believe they don't want tourism in NWO and could care less of any of our concerns Edited by Shane, Feb 17 2014, 10:22 PM.

I see your frustrations Shane but there is some stuff I'm in the loop on that I cant comment on. All I can say is the signs are there for this all to happen but we have a job to do as well. From what I see, The MNR and the government want this to happen in full but if popular opinion in the north is for it to not happen, it won't come back,,, only in the areas that have it now. We shouldn't discourage people from jumping on this unless someone thinks the spring hunt should not happen anywhere at all. AND LISTEN TO THE AUDIO SHANE

No problem and I think once you hear what the minister "Has" to say and what he say could happen you might start to hear a new flavor from them and just maybe the MNR will get back to being what its intended for. Long road ahead! Just stay calm and listen. Its hard, I was getting pissed.

The reporter asks why not non resident hunting, and the answer was its for residents but we have a fall season? that's the full response, really? If its for public safety and not for profit why are the tags not at a reduced rate to help promote it a bit more So all you need to do to get a non resident season is make more complaints about problem bears. So I would suggest anyone living north of hwy 7 make a weekly call to the MNR and complain about a problem bear, heck call them twice a week I lost count of how many times he said "err" when asked if this was a cull hunt vs a normal type hunt, and really didn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling that if there was a reduced number of problem bear calls the "pilot" program would continue. So reading between the lines to me is call and call often to report problem bears. Hmmm now I have to find out what constitutes a problem bear for me, eating my berries, had a poo near my garden, hate that |

If its about public safety why is the hunt only in a small part of the province ? The biologist said that Sudbury last year had very few bear problems The biologist was asked if this hunt was scientific or political and he laughed The biologist was asked if he thinks this will work , he didnt see how it could have much of an impact with just residents hunting in such a small part of the province Hate to say it again but everything points to politics |

This has ALWAYS been a political issue. The mnr never felt it needed to protect bear cubs, they just bent to pressure. Now however the government needs to protect their ass. We live in a society where the majority of decisions are made on the basis of which one is less likely to get you sued. There have been enough occurrences now that sooner or later someone is going to get killed. As it was the government was in a bad position to say they had done anything to safeguard against it. They are caught in the middle of what they know they should do and what the majority want them to do. If someone got killed they would be sued up the ying yang and a president would be set that would be extremely costly. This test is simply to see how much negative feedback they will get trying to reinstate the hunt. It also lets them say they acknowledge the situation and are doing something about it while really doing nothing (just temporarily protecting their ass). If they don't get to much flack they will reinstate it and solve numerous problems and headaches. Instead of the bear wise program the government should just educate the public stating the facts to nullify all the propaganda the anti's put out there and just make a stand. They can't do this though because the opposing party will always twist the truth for a political advantage. All parties are equally to blame for this game playing crap. Sending letters in will not hurt and may help. Talking to your friends, relatives, co-workers etc. in a very non-confrontational way who are well meaning, mis informed antis or people on the fence will do more in making a huge difference in how much support they will get in their fight this time. I'll bet 50% or more of the so called anti's are just well meaning people that don't care either way that just want to help do what is right and signed petitions etc. because their friend or relative asked them to. Well meaning just ill informed. Hunters are their own worst enemies when they emotionally argue a situation instead of taking advantage of situations to put another side or new/correct information out there. You will be surprised how many people will listen to another side when presented appropriately.

I fully support this pilot project and a spring bear hunt is long over due in Ontario. This hunt should have included all of Ontario and the full spring bear hunt reinstated as too pre 1999 regulations. In most of northern Ontario, the people who live there have seen a dramatic increase in human bear conflict since 1999 and in using the population model that the MNR uses, I can prove that bear densities are 3-4 times higher in the Markstay Warren as well as the Onaping Falls regions. In Ontario we manage ALL big game by a WMU basis except for Black Bear which is a discredit to the animal and a false population estimate for population in Northern Ontario. We say we have 1 bear per 10 square Kilometers which fits the model but in using all of Ontario's vast size we include a large area (south of the French River) where bear numbers are much lower then most areas in the North. In the south these numbers might be closer to the model but far off the densities seen in the north. Bears that I have seen in the bush as well as on trail cameras (10 Baited areas in both regions ) have shown and increase in social problems where more battle scars on bears from fighting between bears has jumped in the past 10 years dramatically. As well as the social behavior between bears seeing change, More Calf Moose carcases are being found by outdoorspeople then witnessed prior to 1999. In Newfoundland there is a study too see if bears are changing there habits from opportunistic hunters too now laying in wait for moose. This change in bear behavior is based on over population as the habitat is falling shot in supporting a growing black bear population. Since 1999 Northern Ontario, ALL of Northern Ontario has seen large human bear conflicts and because of the lack of support felt by many of these communities, residents took to just shooting these bears because people at the MNR were directing residents to do so. "Many people in these smaller communities just stopped calling in nuisance bears and too just shooting them and this should be looked at in this project." All communities should have been given the respect and asked if bears are an issue and if a hunt needs to take place. If this is the case, which it is, This only would prove the full reinstatement of the spring Black Bear season in Ontario should begin as well as the environment issues, habitat, and social bear issues. |
