Lets see how many people we can get to submit in one day. Post here once your done and maybe post your comments to help others do this as well. http://www.ebr.gov.on.ca/ERS-WEB-External/displaynoticecontent.do?noticeId=MTIxNTE3&statusId=MTgxOTg4&language=en Suggested points to make, Support this spring bear hunt In the interest of public safety as well as proper game management the spring hunt should be brought back in full across Ontario. The ministry admitted in 99 "The ministry recognizes there is no scientific data to indicate the proposal is necessary for purposes of sustaining black bear. However, this type of scientific data is not necessary for the proposal because the proposal has not been put forward for this purpose." In 99 it was a social reason to cancel as it is a social issue now, " the scope of accepted wildlife management principles takes into account, with respect to hunting practices, perceptions of social acceptability and humane hunting practices as they may change from time to time." Time for change socially is now ! In 99 there was no scientific data to support a need for population control" The most common comments were that the bear population is high, and that there is no scientific data to support the proposal. With respect to the comments that the bear population is high (1999), the ministry agrees with this and noted the size of the bear population in its proposal notice. However, the size of the bear population does not guarantee that female bears with young cubs are not mistakenly shot during a spring bear hunt" The whole bases in 1999 was a social reason for cancellation of the spring hunt! Now its the social impact of the population as well as a proper management strategy that must bring the spring hunt back! Its socially irresponsible for our government not to bring the full hunt back with all the human bear conflicts that have jumped 10 times since the cancelation in 1999 as well as the economic impact to Northern Ontario tourism and the benefit to Ontario as a whole. |
