Cornwall sledders beware

If you, or anyone in your family rides a snowmobile, this is scary.

The RCMP is warning of booby traps being set up, targetting sledders in Ontario.

The one they found was in the Cornwall area where a rope had been strung across a bridge, spanning the trail.

A couple of snowmobilers were able to escape injury by ducking when their sled came into contact with the rope.

Police believe this wasn't an accident, and the rope was intentionally placed there.

Bridge across creek over service road along river which is a smugglers route off of st. Lawrence river. Probably gang competition. Police catching a small amount of smugglers who use skidos and sleighs this time of year for mainly contraband smokes and pot. Check out Cornwall area crime reports and see seizures and names of people charged Locals, natives, Quebeckers and criminals from all big cities.

That's disgusting! I hope they catch this person and give them the maximum penalty and if some one gets killed due to something like this they should be charged with murder. I was a victim of the same type of booby trap when I was 11 or 12 years old. Riding through a trail I'd ridden hundreds of times before on my dirt bike and hit a rope strung across the trail and it hit me in the face (between the visor and mouth guard. It was a violent crash... if it was 4 inches lower I wouldn't be typing this right now. I also have a cousin who hit a booby trap on a trail near Windsor on his sled and nearly died... not to mention there was nothing left of his $12,000 sled. This is a very serious problem! In both cases the trail cut across private property( I know we were both trespassing) but seriously injuring or killing a kid is not an appropriate response. No trespassing signs are a safe and inexpensive alternative

Its BS. Ive put alot of time and KM's on the sled this year and seen lots of riders as well. alot of the trails around here go through the middle of the bush, across bridges and along fence lines. couple years ago i noticed a farmer dug out a 10ft section of ground in the middle of the trail. i cruised by noticing the hole and plastic parts all over...

Like I said this was probably smuggling related and an innocent person could get hurt. I would not set booby traps for any one but I have no sympathy for trespassers young or old. Trails damaged by bikes, a.t.v, jeeps and trucks, fences and gates ripped out and no trespassing signs destroyed to having a sugar camp and old barn burned down is part of the damage on my farm over the years. Theft of every thing not tied down and some that was. Loss of trail cameras and the most frustrating being told to f. off by young trail bike riders trespassing on my property. And as for crash you said you trespassed hundred of times when you were young ; did you not have parents to teach you right from wrong?
This is the same as hunting. Most farmers if asked politely may allow hunters on their land but if they have a bad experience with one it ruins it for others. All it takes is one gate left open to cause problem for farmers. I like dobbers statement in this forum about showing young hunters the right and moral way to hunt. My father and grand father trained me to hunt and I try not to make them roll over in their graves. After 50 plus years of hunting I still enjoy it but pick and choose what I want to shoot at.
In my area a snowmobile club had to abandon a section of trail because the land owners withdrew permission for them to use it. Members and non members had caused damage on their properties. A lot of snowmobilers do not understand that trails on private property may be built by owners for their own use for various reasons. If it is not your land get permission to use it!

Sounds like you got things figured out eh? You are making a lot of assumptions here. I didn't damage anything when I was a kid and I don't owe you any explanation. " I have no sympathy for trespassers young or old", some one gets maimed or killed and it's ok by you because they trespassed?

Why should I have sympathy for some one who injures himself while trespassing on my property?

I notice a common theme among all of your 8 posts since joining here at OTB. Way to showcase your intelligence

I'm done with you...
