We don't usually talk about this kinda stuff till it happens but we should do it more often. It really hits home when someone dies at work and they have 2 young children they leave behind. What could you say if you see a mans very young son climb on a closed coffin so he could lay down with his dad ? I never want my son to ever have the need to do this or anyone for that matter! I'm an electrician who has worked off the top of skips in mine shafts, pulp and paper mills, smelters, steel tube mills and brake shoe relining plants. I realize more then ever that my safety is my responsibility. I have picked one part of my job to focus on since the recent death at my work place. Arc Flash ratings on equipment and to be sure to wear the equipment to protect me. What can you focus on to be better at making sure you go home to your family ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bBvmPRqfmo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h10ALIpD0R4 Pick something to get better at and share it so someone else might learn from your idea. |

I currently work at a place where the manager gets mad at me when I let all summer staff know that they have the right to refuse work if they feel uncomfortable doing it. Me and him have had many battles over the last few years about the safety of employees. It has gotten to the point where I wont go above and beyond for the place either, just putting in time tell I can find something better. His bosses have also been notify and choose to look the other way also. Luckily no one has got injuried as of yet. |
