Here is one hunters thoughts on this at OOD and very well said:

Well according to the Quebec government and media 70% of the animals taken by hunters are spoiled or left to rot after being taken. This lovely figure was rolled out to help promote a new pilot project initiative where select restaurants will be allowed to sell wild game. This is basically to see what the interest of the public will be and then if it's well received an expansion of the project will be moved forward.

According to the Quebec ministry this would be a much better use of the resource because all of the animal would be used instead of being wasted the way hunters do. The media is reporting this as such.

So apparently we hunters (the most avid conservationists) are bad, but market hunting is good. The stupidity and arrogance on the part of both the Quebec government and media on this is unbelievable. It was because of market hunting that game populations crashed and were almost wiped out. It was only because of conservation minded hunters who did not want to exploit the animals and worked to have laws and seasons to protect animals when they were at their most vulnerable that animals were able to bounce back. Let's not forget that animals once extirpated by market hunters were reintroduced and now thrive because of hunter based conservation minded groups (OFAH-wild turkeys for example)

This is a massive step backwards, and the stupid media is promoting it completely backwards, and the problem is that the general public will buy it. History has already showed us what happens when commercial business seeks to profit from wild fish and game, exploitation isn't far behind.

am curious as to how they come with the 70% as well, are they going with live weight vs actual meat?

Just more of an anti spin to promote market hunting, and why are hunters noted as "hillbillies" (please don't refer to my avatar when reading this *L*)
condescending twat

Media , they don't ever talk good about hunters . We hear this kind of story where we waste 70 percent of the meat ? We hear how we orphan bear cubs and of course poaching . No wonder there's people against hunting

I read the Mop & Pail's article & left the following comment:

"I find the statement made by Mr. Laprise that “Seventy per cent of it goes in the garbage,” ridiculous! I am a hunter & have never wasted any of the game meat that I harvest. I also know many other hunters and they also never waste game meat. It is also against the law to let game meat spoil! I would like to see the evidence to back up this absurd claim! I am personally against allowing the sale of game meat. It has caused many problems with game management in the past, & will again if allowed."

Market hunting destroyed game in the past, & will do so again if allowed.
