Keep it mowed before it flowers in the summer and wait until the frost hits it in the fall.....chicory is more of a cool season forage for deer and once they find it they will love it....

I planted some forage feast chicory along with Alice and Ladino white clover and winter rye last fall in my small 1/4 acre plot and I'm hoping to get up in a week or two to mow and knock down the winter rye and any other weeds and flower heads. Late next winter I'll frost seed the same chicory and clover mixture into the same plot to thicken up. I haven't been up to the hunt camp since late April so not certain how things are doing with this plot. Also, not certain how the deer will react and I have a trail camera on this plot and we'll see what happens. Also, what Bocephus stated is correct about mowing and deer usage, good advise.
Good luck and be patient, give it a year or two before you decide to change it up. This time of year deer have lots of browse around to eat and visit the food plots less frequently.
