Hey guys quick question, when is the best time to use fertilizer? When would you spread UREA and how much would you spread? Thanks Oh and on average I know a soil sample will tell me but don't have one yet, soil still under a foot of snow. Donnie |

First what are you planting? Nitrogen/urea for corn or other grasses like wheat/barley, sunflower's etc... If you are putting in clover's or alfalfa, the nitrogen isn't the biggy. It would be Potash, phosphorus, with some {urea/nitrogen.} As far as putting the urea on I just broadcast it just before I'm ready to plant then go over it with a disc or harrow. Then plant, hope the rain hits it will soak in. As far as lb's. A farmer usually put's 300lb to an acre for corn, I have been going 100lb for a deer food plot. Every year I plant it. I'm on sandy loam soil. Which isn't the greatest, but I get plenty good corn for the deer... Also brassica's use a lot of fertilizer as well.. |

I was going with more of the barrisicas route than corn or beans. Only have about 2.5 acres. Can't remember if I read somewhere that Urea was good at beginning or half way through. I see its on sale this week at TSC so that is really what triggered the question. Thanks again, Donnie |

With Brassica, I throw down 200 lbs/ac of triple 19 at planting and come back 4-6 weeks later with 200 lbs/ac of Urea (46-0-0) and closely followed by a good rain. Also, Urea is about $25.00 for a 50 lbs. bag at my local co-op, not certain what TSC is charging. Friggs |
