Some Plotters plant soya beans with a no-till drill into the previous fall planted rye or wheat and spray glyphosate just after planting the soya's in following spring and/or they no-till/broadcast rye into soya's when they start to turn yellow in late summer. Soya beans grow better when planted by themselves then with a mixture and provide great summer forage and seed pods for late fall/winter. Planting Round-up Ready soya beans is handy if weeds become a problem in early summer. I like rye better than wheat because rye doesn't need good soil (PH) or as much nutrients as wheat. Rye with its deep root system scavenges the soil for nutrients better than wheat. Either one is good for deer forage that fall/winter and the following spring. If your broadcasting soya beans than I would start with a clean plot this spring, broadcast your soya's then disc/drag to cover seeds before rain. Later that summer when they start to yellow broadcast rye before rain and add some red clover also. Two or three food sources are better than one. Good luck and keep us informed....Friggs |
