good or bad idea to get my food plot going while it rain? Going in tomorrow and it's suppose to rain....I can"t see why not other than the fact it will be a little muddy.....also, I was going to throw fertilizer and the lady where I bought my seeds said it could harm the deer if they are already around??? any comments on this? |

For me, plotting in the rain is not an option. Too much clay and disk would get bunged up. Can't harrow either. Never heard of fertilizer harming deer before. It would be ideal if you can get your seeds in just before a rain. |

I like to plant and fertilizer before a good rain always and never during a rain. First, seed sticks to your tires and roller if your pressing in your seeds and never mind the the mud sticking to your equipment and tires and it just makes a big mess of your fields. Also if small seeds get wet from rain they stick together and make it hard to broadcast. Fertilizer won't hurt deer I don't know what she means about that but fertilizer can burn crops such as clover, alfalfa and grasses etc... if applied when plants are wet. But if it continues to rain for awhile after you fertilize the rain will wash the foliage and fertilizer down towards the ground and root area. Friggs |
