Just catching up on what I have got done this year. I did end up getting soy beans in. I talked to a few farmers around to see what did work around the area. Not may people grow them there. I went with 2610 Dekalb that has 121 maturity. Here is a picture after I think about 3 weeks.

We will see how they do next time I'm at the farm.
Put in a couple of small kill plots using weed wacker, tractor and groundhog max. Sure helps if you put the groundhog max on the right way. :shy:

Farmer tiled 60 acres about two weeks ago. He planted barley in the 30 he did last year. Bears loved it in the spring but was unable to fill my tag. :( but maybe next time when I get there.
Oh yeah had to replace dam mineral fountain again because of bear. So I put this challenged out to all those dam bears come and get this one.

Angus, how did you seed the soybeans? I put a mix in where my alfalfa was last year and was thinking soy or corn for next year.

I had a farmer with a regular planter do it. But his lease is up so if I do it again I think I would broadcast or get some help and plant by hand. I'm thinking not even half a day once the soil is ready to drop and drag. Broadcast from what I read would require quite a bit more beans and they are not cheap so more than likely by hand. I'm not sure of the date because I don't have my binder with me but I think they were planted too late. I have not been there in a month but from what I've been told they are only 12"s high now and no pods. On the good side I have seen both an Elk and a bear in them on the same day. But no deer!!!

Angus, hope they make it up in time and the deer find them soon. I will seed by hand seeder next year, I have pretty much ruled out the broadcast method for corn or soy.

They look good, real good. Do you have any trail cams set up to see if they are being visited?

Well was up this past weekend. The beans really did well earlier I bet over 80% were nipped off but as I feared they were planted way to late. They are all dead now and no pods!!!!!! Pretty much my own fault but live and learn eh. In the other food plot I cannot believe how well it did. Dumb bum me did not get any pictures took a video though. Anyway that plot has never grown that good over the whole plot. Kale and turnips and sogram I believe and a few other things are up past my knee. That should be the hot plot this year. I will see if I can take a picture of the video. Other two kill plots I did only the clover came up but there is some traffic in both of them. I will try and fertilize next spring if I can get back there. If not summer it will be. New farmer that is leasing all the fields says he is planting 24 acres in early green feed (peas and oats) then seed down to alfalfa. The other 60 is all going to be oats for combining. So I really hope they get that spring bear hunt going. I'm excited to see what kind of deer numbers come out in the spring to the new seed.
