Oh I hear ya Shed I do, we don't buy beef either. Moose bear and deer make up %80 of our meat supply for the year. And I get the fact that you got the tags so why not fill em because hey, ya might not get any next year right. And hey, ya might not see any next year. A group that was staying in camp at the same time as us shot 3 for 10 and they saw about 8 or 9 more. Glory dayz were here for them. LAst year the 10 of them saw 2 moose and got nothing. So this year they made up for it. I completly understand all that. But my line of thinking is that you had lots of meat, why shoot the calves. That calf could be your young bull next year, it could be the only one you see next year. Tags are getting harder and harder to come by and with the changes comming in the draw system it could get worse, heck you might not be able to shoot calves in 2 years. I really think you are shooting yourself in the foot by shooting all the calves. 3 moose for 5 guys is tons of meat. But 4, holly smokes. You put a big dent in the population right there. I know its kinda contradictory of me to say the folowing but I'll say it anyhow. I loved the story and pics, good for you and a big congrats. I don't meen to rain on your parade. You had a hell of a season and you shold be very proud. Seasons like that don't come around too often for sure. But you have to look at the big picture and ask yourself. Will you have any regreats if next year you see nothing. If you still have no regrets than good for you. But I find it a long hard week seeing nothing. But hey, who knows, maybe next year you will do it again. It is only my opinion that we need to stop shooting so many calves is all. Especialy when we already have some hanging. Once again, congrats on a fantastic succesfull moose hunt. |

Thanks for the congrats. Last year we seen only 1 calf and let it go, due to the fact we only seen 1. I am all about letting calf go but the system we have right now encourages calf harvest. Last year we harvested 1 moose and was very happy with that. I will never feel guilty about shooting animals I have a tag for period as that is why I go. As a group we spent almost $8000 on the hunt, that went directly into the pockets of the NW Ontario people. Sorry if I offended anyone. |

Am just not getting this at all, they issue oh lets say 100 bull tags in an area, in year one there are 100 groups and they all fill their tags which equals 100 moose. Year 2 only 50 groups for the same 100 tags and one group has 5 tags, all the tags get filled which equals 100 moose. So if there are 100 tags out there who cares who fills them, its 100 tags. How come no one busted some of the deer hunters chops already this year or even last year with the shooting of fawns? I hunted an area where i could shoot 6 deer, and guess what i did, in 4 days. Greed? well thats like buying a half a beef when i can buy a steak one at a time. I filled my freezer just like James group did, and within the legal requirements. You are a complete hypocrite if you chose to not comment on people shooting a fawn, for the same reasons, poor management (in your line of thinking) as it could be next years big buck |

congrats on your great moose hunt Shed. Dont worry about the calves that your group harvested, chances are the wolves would have taken them down this winter anyway. |

YOu can't compare moose numbers with deer numbers, its not even a close comparison. And who said anybody was jealous? |

If so many tags are allowed I dont see it as greed if tags are filled. In the last week ive seen a post where we are all to blame for the moose population dropping and now were greedy if we fill the tags ? |

sorry i just can;t figure out "your line of thinking" not sure where your lines in the sand are drawn. Mine are very simple, everything is equal - within the laws and tags that are handed to us from the MNR Still a hypocrite if you draw them lines between critters. |

Well it's not like this type of hunt happens every year ,when things are going good ,things are going good the gang is on a high and I tend to agree when we as individuals pay 1000.00 a season to go on a moose hunt, why not fill the tag you paid for .It's a pretty tough decission to say we have 2 or 3 tags filled ,so you can't fill your tag since you paid the same as everyone else to go on this hunt . Every hunter who goes on a moose hunt ,goes to fill their tag ,they are legally entitled to that ,and I also understand the other side of the matter ,but I'm afraid every hunter who is entilted to take their moose is gonna do it if the opportunity presents itself ,that's just the way it is. Congrat's Shed ,sounds like a awsome hunt . nubo |

guess it depends on where you hunt and what the population is like in that area, i know Shed drives much further than most, i would pass on a calf in area 57, but would smoke one in area 19 without a doubt |

I understand your point of view on the matter ,but I'm sure you would find not everyone shares your opinion. But if your going year after year and your not getting tags filled ,or really scratching to get 1 filled I'm sure most will take advantage of a real good year. Your point has been made and we know where you stand on that and you are entitled to that ,but we can't diss on others because they chose to take advantage of it. nubo |

WOW....Always one in the group to piss down yer back SHED...as my Favorite saying goes "WHACK EM AND STACK EM" Your group did great...Pile em up while you can! Cornman...Grow up...Moose huntin is moose huntin...They all have the right to harvest a moose each..I fer one will shoot a Moose all for myself and eat the whole thing, I would take a calf if I held an adult tag and would take an adult too for the tag I held...I would wipe out a whole family of em if we had all tags coverd...Huntin is huntin..If you want to pass on Calfs then do so...Dont bring your put downs on here... |
