My boys and I have decided to get back in the deep stuff next year or two by canoes. I need some advice for a good area to focus on in northeastern ontario?
A river system if you wish. I have no issues paddling for 2 days to get far away.

Its been years since I was in norhtern ontario, kids, sports teams, work you name it. I know I am nuts to even ask anyone to give away their secret stash moose zone and I dont want that either.

I know how hard I worked to land our deer camps in central eastern Ontario.

We will get into the draw this spring, with our group of guys. Year one we dont even care if we harvest a calf. In fact I would rather not, I have my own oppinions on that but will keep them to myself.

Or an outfitter that can fly us in and drop off , no guide, just get me there.

Any suggestions of areas? Locals?

Plan to rip up this summer over 3-4 days and scout the crap out of some targetted area.

I may opt for quebec instead its closer for me?

Look up the Mattagami river, you can head as far north at Moosonee/James Bay if you want.

If you do decide to go with an outfitter in QC, you should check out Caesars Lodge. Fly in Econo hunts in prime moose country for $995.00 per person. Price includes flying out your moose. Does not include your license fee.

I hunted for about 10 years on the Kabinakagami River you launch from Calstock
We used to go a full day down the river to the junction of the Kenogami and the Nagagami. It flows north to the bay There is a small settelment called Mamamattawa. Just north of the forks. the moose hunting there was great we used to go back north on the Nagagami to the inlet of the Otasawian. there are good camping sites. It is a long trip sometimes taking us two days to come out do to the upstream curret. Lots of moose we were never skunked there. Get up early drift the river calling drop a guy off here and there then work your way back home for the night awesome trip but a crap load of work..

just a thought...what about around chapleau...there are lots of rivers around there that you could go...plus they have a massive game preserve there...obviously u can;t hunt there but I'm sure the edges of that would be pretty good....nice thing about ontario is there are spots everywhere
I didn't fight my way to the top of the food chain to be a vegetarian.
