Just curious if anyone has any insight on wether or not there are going to be any changes to the Moose draw application system for this season as a result of last years review.

Nothing has been updated that I can find since Nov. I doubt much will happen for this season. Here's a link to check out

I heard that the prices for the tags are gonna go up again and you still won't get any tags.

No doubt someone has to pay for these seminars. People just have to realize there is not enough moose for everyone to get a tag and even if they implement the point system if you hunt in WMU's with too many hunters there is still a slim chance to get a tag. I was looking at some charts they have there,if I was reading them correctly one WMU you would need 80 points to get a tag as a group so once the point system is in the 10 th year a group of 8 will get a tag every year after that. :spinning:

Their is TONS of moose in northern ontario and I mean northen ontario. All they have to do to fix this ongoing tag/moose hunt problem is to do nearly the same thing as Quebec does. Shorten the season to 2 weeks and 4 tags/hunters on 1 moose. Once your tag is attached to a moose you put your high powered rifle away and hunt for grouse or simply do whatever you want with the rest of your holiday. Alternate the same thing as Quebec does as to wich moose can be harvested each year and watch the moose population explode to record numbers in Ontario.

It works extremly well in Quebec, why can't it work here????

The Quebec system does work quite well. If you are a rifle hunter this year you can harvest bulls & calves. Next year everything goes. They alternate every other year like this. You need 2 tags to seal a moose and as already said above there is no party hunting after you have sealed a moose. Now for the nice part, if you are a bowhunter then you can harvest bulls, cows and calves every year. Same as rifle you need 2 tags to seal a moose and no party huntingh after using your seal.
I truly have no expectations of anything positive coming out of our pending "review".

Ontario is so far behind in their moose mgmt it is scary. They just need to look to the west or east to see how to do things.

I was over at the MNR yesterday and from what I could gather there will most likely be no changes to the system this year. This seems like correct information to me as the time to purchase tags to enter the draw is right around the corner. Besides anything the government says they will do always takes 10 times longer than it should to get done, unless they want your money than they must have it ASAP. Northshore.

There are no prices on tags this year yet because they also plan to raise the price because of the harmonize tax..
