Good questions. Not sure if we have any members that hunt there. What is involved with getting in the draw there?

We have a member here who goes by Garnet47 who's from NB and hunts moose in that province. He should be able to answer your questions. You might want to send him a pm.

I do know that the season isn't a long one. If I'm not mistaking, I believe it's only a 4 day season in the area of NB he hunts, and that's for the NB residents. Not sure about non-resident hunters?

getting in draw is easy you just fill out form and send fee then wait to get picked. thats the hard part. i was at outdoor show down our way we have sportsmen shows in Jan. Feb. outfitters try selling hunts anyway there was a husband and wife team that owned outfit and they were from NewBrunswick. she was telling me it's harder for her to get moose permit then it is for me. she also said it hurts their outfitter business. that's same story in Maine. i've been getting in that lottery for sometime very hard, but then again some guys get one the first time. I came up to Quebec Lac Blue and bear hunted while i was to be showen around for some moose. Never happened after i was there no one had the time to spend. but that was reason i went to begin with. i didn't want to buy lic. spend money, time and not even end up in moose country. Most outfitters at shows talk the talk but can't walk the walk. I don't feel that it's 100% but i'ed like to at least find sign of moose and be in moose country...later

Getting drawn here in N.B. is easier for non residents than residents. Chances for non residents is 1 in 10. There are actually 2 draws for non residents so all tags are sold. It is a three day hunt and like any hunt depends on the weather. Three days of rain not only dampens the spirit it can change everything learned in the month preceding the season. I've posted tons of pics I've taken of moose in the area I live in and moose are plentiful. I've been fortunate and have taken hunters almost every year for the last 25 years. I got my number drawn last year and got a nice bull the first morning. Had 3 bulls come to the call and took the second largest. He dressed 950 with 19 points. My best friend used the same stand the second day and got a 13 point. Unfortunately with a 3 day hunt you are taking your chances if you pass on a moose so many of the bulls taken each year are young bulls. The application process is very simple. Just go to the government of New Brunswick website and it's explained fully. I can repost any of the pics if anyone wants to see them.

New Brunswick tourism told me that odds for a non-resident run roughly 1:20. The way that they explained it to me is that the number of tags allocated for non-residents is very small.

The thing I'd worry about with N. Brunswick is that I hear guys are allowed to post their own piece of public land no trespassing. If you are hunting on public land and don't see their sign saying they have a stand there things can get heated. So I'm told anyway.
I'd rather be Moose hunting.

Sorry, Paul is right. It is 1 in 20. As for the sign issue that does happen. A lot of N.B. is Crown land and open to everyone. The signs, initially, were used as information. There is so much land there was no need for 2 hunters to use the same spot. The sign was to tell people someone else planned to hunt that area. They didn't say keep out or anything like that. Usually had the hunter's name and some had contact information. However, some guys have taken it to extremes and posted as many areas as they can and even blocked access to other hunters. Where I hunt, having other hunters around doesn't happen. Most won't go that far from the road as the terrain is very rough and if you don't have the equipment getting a moose out is a pain. What was a pretty good idea with the signs is now a pain in the buttt. It's caused a lot of hard feelings and more than a couple of fist fights. I usually put contact information in a ziploc bag and attach it to my stand if I plan on using the stand, it's always worked.

moosemike is right with what he says, down here we herd about a couple stories where it got bad. you always get one of those guys no matter where you go. it's like ,did you ever meet a guy you wish you never met. trust me down here deer season turns some guys into real whack-OOO's. I like to take in everything the people the towns the way things go in different areas, and hopefully the game i'm after. Getting a moose isn't easy thats what else i like. The first moose i ever saw was in canada she was standing knee deep in a small lake I WAS HOOKED....later
