Talked to a co-worker today and he had a close encounter with a huge bull. He called it to his pick up truck in the middle of the afternoon. The area is a no hunt zone in the Thunder Bay region. Can't wait till the 24th :crazy2:

Was in the 21A vacinity today, I would say they are just starting, was checking out a block and decided to let a few calls out at a bull I could see. He was intersted but just not quite ready. Next week look out!

Man I shouldn't be reading this stuff since I can't hunt this year. Dang shoulder surgery.

Good luck to all that are out there chasing them with a bow. May you be blessed with a good blood trail to follow.

2 C, calm, with a frost here in Thunder Bay this morning. Yesterday's scouting trip yielded lots of rubs and rut pits and the moose were moving all day long... things are starting to happening.

Just got back from archery trip to area 19 things are just picking up and should be good next week for those heading up. We had moose responding pretty much every day but were silent coming in yesterday morning another bull following a cow. The chance of a lifetime on Monday morning when Lonewolf called out a absolute monster to me we were thinking 60+ from across the lake and for 45 min put on a great show thrashing, grunting, swimming part of the lake only to present me with a quarting toward shot partially covered thru the tammeracks at 38 yards before he sented or seen me than went out to 100 yards and gave two big growls and headed back across the lake and up his ridge a smaller bull was makin his way down the ridge at the same time but one big grunt from this guy and put the end to that. Had a great week and hunting with Lonewolf was awsome and he sure knows how to work the bulls.

Sounds like a very exciting morning sureshot! Too bad about not getting a shot at that bull. Bulls are definately active right now. Weather couldn't be more perfect after this front moved through. I expect quite a few moose will go down this week. Good luck to all.

Renegade,

Heavy frost, -2 and calm as could be this morning here in TBay, so I bet your right! Undoubtably some bulls getting harvest this morning! Did you guys get a heavy frost in Atikokan last night as well?

We went to set up for our week long hunt (tuesday) on saturday and hunted the morning all the sign was over a week old and it appeared we missed all the action. In the evening we found some fresh rubs and a rut pit. We quickly set up and I started to call within hour a young bull was putting the sneak on our location. It eventually locked up at 60 yards in a alder swale and then took off like a rocket. I think he might have winded us or got scared. Because a half hour later the deep grunts could be heard coming our way. He broke into the cut 150 yards out and made a bee line towards us, after playing with him four about 40 min we had him at 45 yards. My bro-inlaw wasn't going to try shoot anything more then 30. I pulled back and waited. He slowly started to quater away but I couldn't shoot because of a stick. He then ran out in to swamp and started grunting at us and it was all over...... Can't wait till Tues.. I also filmed it so when I figure out how to post it I will. Hopefully I'll get footage of a monster going down
