Well headed out for camp on Sunday morning was in camp by 12:30pm that day. A few fresh tracks since I had last been there on the wednesday before. Picked up all cameras that were out before dark that day. Only one camera had pictures, an they were of an young "Y" horn Bull on the 14th of Oct at 3:38am just over the hill from the camp.

Monday seen us head for our usual spots that we have watched in the past. No one seen anything but I did her one to the East of me calling which I return call but got no answer. Headed back to the camp for 12pm for lunch and quick break. After that Myself and another guy headed out for an lake that was about 2 1/2km from camp where there had been dogs running earlier that morning. Got to the lake around 2:30pm walked the east edge of it for 750 yards before heading out the other way around the ridge. Headed back towards where we had been set up in the morning an talked to a couple of guys that were in camp with us as they were already on watch when we got there.

Got to my post afew minutes before 4pm, settled into my tree. Started my first series of calls around 4:15pm an had no response. Called again afew minutes too 5pm. within 5 minutes there was the loud crack of an rifle from across the lake where my dad was hunting. I fumbled with my coat trying to get to my radio to see if the hunt was over already before I could get to the radio there was another shot. At that point I had just click my radio on in time to hear my dad say my name an together the rest of the guys at that camp as he had an bull down. By that time the rest of the guys had their radios on an had heard him say to get back to camp there was an moose on the ground. I quickly got out of the tree an headed for the camp only 700 yards away over an hill as I reach the top of the hill I heard one last shot from dad's gun as he had walked out on the bog to make sure the bull wasn't going anywhere.

Upon reaching the lake where my dad would pick us up in the boat. We found dad already there waiting for us. Seems the boat was only an 12' alum. we knew from other years it was going to take afew trip to get everyone over to the other side. Myself an another guy that had went for the walk with me earlier that day and Dad headed across to the other side. On the way over Dad inform us where to find the moose, that I could start to gut it when He returned for the last two guys but to be careful as there had been a cow with the bull that hadn't wanted to leave it even after he had shot the Bull. Only problem was now we were pretty much at the other side of the lake an no one had a gun with them. We decided that we would walk out an see if she had gone or what an then decide on where to go from there. Upon reaching the spot where dad had told us we would find the moose we spotted it not far off of an bald rock with no caw in sight. While walking up to the moose both myself an the other guy laugh and said that we were pretty sure that it was the bull form the trail camera across the lake.

We got the bull pulled up on a high spot in the marsh, an started working on getting it gutted. The nice thing about where it drop was the fact there was an creek leading to the lake only 15 yards from it. hen dad returned to us we had him bring the boat right in the creek to us. At that point we rolled the guts out an dragged him to the boat. I loaded two guys in the boat an took them across to get an bike from camp down to the lake with an bush buggy. I rowed back to the moose where three of us proceed to rolled it into the boat on the marsh then back into the water the other guy then rowed it back across to the other side where they flipped it out an he return to pick us up. We got back to the other side put the boat away for the season and headed over to get the moose loaded in the bush buggy for the ride up the hill. Which turned out to be alot easier then in years gone by when we had dragged them up behind the ATV's. Got him to the camp and hung. When we looked at the time we couldn't believe that we were already done. My dad's first shot was at 5:02pm an we had back at the camp hanging by 7:50pm . that is record timing for our gang for an moose shot across the lake there have been times where we have had to leave them across there over night because we ran out of light to bring them across.

Spent Tuesday afternoon skinning it out in my uncles garage then took it to the butcher shop on Wednesday afternoon the four quarters weight in at 358lbs.

Sorry no harvest pictures as my camera some how never found it way into my bag this year. Will post the trail camera picture when I get them uploaded

Here is the trail camera picture of the bull from the thursday before the hunt taken across the lake from where it was harvested on opening night. If you notice the antler on the left side does not show in the picture as it had been damaged in velvet an hung downward out of sight.

Is that the one right on 35 on the other side of the road, just trying to think where you are forsure. Buttermilk falls is south of the firehouse right?? Sorry I'm having one of those blond moments. :D

No luck this year as my grandmother had passed on the Sunday before opening day, so I did not get to hunt until Saturday. Buttermilk Falls is south of the firehouse.
