Anyone using a radio that actually lets you talk more than a mile?
We have a good number of brands at the moose camp, none seem able even to do that.

What you need are 5 Watt GMRS radios. Them 2 Watt radios actually only put out 0.5 Watt.

Like Lonewolf said but you need to take a trip to the states to buy them not sure you could probably have them sent from the states no problem. Yeah I love all the different GMRS radio packages good for 45 kms, good for 50 kms come on why dont they just put good for 1000 kms.

We use marine radio's around here and they seem to work real well. They reach out and last a long time on one rechargeable battery and it also come's with a pack that take's AA batteries to.
They have the weather stations and emergency channel in case of a major emergency.
Here is the link to the one that most guy's around here carry.

We use the marine also for coyote hunting so we dont have anyone getting in on our hunt. We were finding with cb people would hear whats goin on than we have 10 more trucks trying to get in on the chase. Just remember its a federal offence to be using them for that purpose.

Yeas, that would be nice, but I wonder, given that they are FM type radios, if even they would be effective with a few big rock ridges in the way.

Not sure how they would work where you moose hunt, but they work for up to approximately 5 miles where we moose hunt (WMU 19/21-A).

It is required by law to be licensed to operate on GMRS frequencies. License costs $85.00 and good for 5 years.

only problem there, is that everyone would have to have one.

I'm looking into it, seems to be the best option right now.

That's what we have. (Rino 530HCx)

Great units.

To get the 5 watt units, you need to buy them from the U.S. If bought in Canada, they are technically only 2 watt radios.

We use UHF 5 watt Motorola's with ear bud and mike. They get out good, and got to love the stealth mode with the ear bud/mike. We paid big buck's for these year's ago, still work'n good though.
