Yes I read about some recent finding too. I believe MNR are investigation 20+ abandoned moose kills from 2010 alone right now in NW Ontario.

I dont get it! Who would leave a moose to rot? Are they just shooting for the sake of shooting? What a waste of a great animal and resorce.

inexcusable act......
fines should only be part of it................I think jail time for such deplorable acts would justify.

The MNR really need to send a message to these POACHING BASTARDS that they will pay both financially and with their FREEDOM!!!!!

I'm just disgusted at this

I think half at least would be from guys who shoot and don't follow up and walk to where the animal was.

ie: " We both got a couple shots at it but never touched a hair"

Guys are shooting 300 yds and not walking in to look for blood etc...waste

then there is the one who shoots first and checks for tags last, heard a story years ago, and apparently he got busted, but young hunter, first moose hunt had a cow and 2 bulls walk out in front of him. Dropped all 3 and was on top of the world.

Think the story went something like they had tags for 1 bull

I would guess there are hundreds of moose shot & never recovered or shot illegally and left behind. Then there's the ones shot illegally and taken home without getting caught. I've heard many stories of hunters shooting first and trying to find tags later.

How many of you have been checked by a CO while moose hunting since you started hunting moose. In over 40 years I have been checked once on the road going into camp and only once on the water while moose hunting.
If you road hunt you will be checked more often and now if you hunt in a remote area your chances to be checked are just about nil.
If someone for any reason wants to kill an animal they can get away with it and the best enforcement comes from the other hunters in the field not CO's.
Experience is what you gain from not getting something you wanted.

We were stopped and checked by a CO while driving along a logging road once.
Licenses, firearms, etc. All was good, but the CO got a little nervous when I got out to stretch my legs. He kept an eye on me while asking the others questions.
That was the only time I have ever been checked by a CO while hunting.

Years ago they stopped every vehicle going up this particular road, it was still dark out and people going to their areas. They only checked for guns in cases and asked a few questions about how many tags we had, never looked at our licenses. About an hour later at day break a few of us were standing by the truck getting ready to do a push around some lakes to the 4 wheeler trails and the CO stops and then asks to see our hunting license and tags. I asked how come he didnt ask for this stuff earlier, he said that we could of just told him we werent moose hunting and didnt need our license.
Craziest place was when i was duck hunting, we finished our morning hunt and had the boat at the launch, he came zipping up in his boat and checked us all out. He checked the guns for removed plugs, and after he put my gun back down i asked him if he could open the chamber like it was when he picked it up. I figured that was a big part in taking the hunting training course and wanted to show i remembered a few things from it

Yup! I agree

In 12 years we got checked for the first time last year. He was the nicest guy you could ask for. Very thorough, but very nice.

I've only been stopped and checked once in 31 years of moose hunting. That was back in the early 90's when my father, brother and myself were hunting in Deux Riviere.

We reported to the C.O. about 6 kill's that happened around us, before the season opened. The gut pile's and some hide's were laying in the middle of the road's . The C.O.'s know who was doing it, did there shooting in the headlight's of a truck. I think most of you's know who i'm talking about, and i think this is totally, B.S. They are the only people in this country that can get away with kind of SLOB , hunting.
