i am looking for opinions of still finding moose in the armstrong station area (16C) we have a bull tag, but the farming has dictated that we couldn't leave before this next week. (oct 19th) what are the chances of still finding moose in the area and any advice is appreciated. have a good day Fred |

I used to hunt area 16C. Moose tend to be in pockets in that area. You either have no moose sign or lots. Not sure if you have hunted the area or not but we have hunted mile marker 23 and 34 on Airport Road and had good success. Both areas have water nearby. At marker 34 there are two small logging roads that go back a couple of km's that take you to a large lake. We had good success at the back end of this lake. The weather tends to be colder up there earlier than other places, the moose should be on the move. My advice is get out and scout for sign as much as you can. |

Just as a side note, this area hasn't been logged in a long time and access is limited in some areas. I've never hunted that area late in October. We always hunted it for the opener in September, when the rut was on and the bulls responded to calls. In 2008 we shot 2 bulls and 1 cow, 2009 - 1 bull and missed another, 2010 I decided to bow hunt. Another group I know was up there 1st week this year and shot two bulls. There is moose there you just have to find the pocket and if you do, you're in the money especially opening week . Another road you can try is the road that leads to Pikitigushi Lake it runs off Airport Road, I'm not sure the name of it but its not that far from mile 34. |
