Just wondering if anyone lives up that way or has any knowledge of the weather? Wondering if they have any snow yet and how much as we are thinking of heading back with a bull tag and cow tag. Thanks Donnie |

Can't help you there , but there must be weather report's you could check on the internet. I feel same way , have bull tag for wmu 4 , pretty expensive to do that trip by yourself, Ouch. LOL.

Most of NW Ontario only has 2-4 inches of snow with a significant warming trend over the next few days. I suspect will loose most of the little we have. PEte |

Thanks for the infor guys, I will keep my eye on the weather network. Someone had told me the other day that the snow was already knee deep but I didn't think that was correct. Donnie |

Just got back from up there and there is definately not a lot of snow. A bit in the bush which hasn't been hit by the sun but that is all. Supposed to get 10-15cm tonight up there though. |

Its snowing in tbay now and we have around 15cm... There will be at least 20cm up there... Logging in the area has stopped so minimal roads will be open.. Be prepared to break trail and watch your tranny temp! It's good to hunt in groups of trucks and bring chains, come-alongs and jack-alls... You can get in a jackpot quick up there. The snow is going to get them moving finally to there wintering areas.. good luck

Thanks for the replies guys, I have been trying to watch the weather network and looking online. I am assuming that there is around 25cm of snow on the ground now with more to come later this week. Are any of the lakes, creeks and ponds already frozen enough to walk on? With the lack of snow this year, why has the logging stopped already? thank again |

I would definately not be going on any lakes or rivers at this point int he season. They are not safe yet even up there. When I was there last Friday they all looked quite punky. The logging has stopped for now as The Terrace Bay Mill just annouced a 3 month shutdown or until pulp prices go back up. Sad to see right before Christmas for all the families that were just getting back on there feet again in the region. Good luck if you head up it is a great time of year to be moose hunting. Will be heading out to camp this week for the last 2 weeks of the season and I can't wait. |

Hey Tikkaman, you are certainly correct about the logging industry around there very sad to see that the mill has closed. I know when we were up there in October they certainly were trying to make hay when the sun shone! As there were trucks running about every 20 mins. Which part of 21A do you hunt? Good luck with the final two weeks, we are still trying to decide as two of the guys have backed out as of last night and they were the two guys with the sleds so we are still up in the air. Where going to leave next Wed through Sunday. Have never tried the late season but have heard it can be fun. Donnie |

Donnie7 I don't hunt that area I hunt area 13 but travel up that way for work. The late season is an awesome time to hunt but you have to be prepared for it that is for sure. Last year we couldn't use trucks (first time in the last 8 years no trucks or Atv's) as the snow was too deep and I ended up putting almost 1000kms on the sled. It was hard going as it seemed that no one had filled there tags and they were all out hunting but it paid off for us on the second last day of the season as we caught up to a cow with twin calves. It was -25 during the day and -36 when we got up in the morning that is just one more thing you have to be concerned about too. Good Luck. |

I haven't been back to that that area for a couple of years... I work all over the the Thunder Bay district and my sightings are mainly based on highway tracks or main bush rd activity... They don't move into their wintering areas until (IMO) we get enough snow or the temps drop... once we get to much snow they drop back into the lowlands. I have heard alot about MNR surveys and the bias that could be atributed to weather. |

Unfortunately not, two of our main dogs (guys that might as well be dogs in the bush) were unable to go. That left us with a bull tag and only two of us so we decided not too. Maybe next year we will be able to plan for it. How did everyone else fair late season? Donnie |

I hunted two weeks. It was tough hunting, 9 full days before we saw a moose and tracks were few and far between. We got our moose, but I'm still recovering. |

We got our moose as well but a ton of miles on the trucks trying to find a fresh set of tracks. 2 sets in the first 6 days of hunting and it is wasn't looking good. |
