This season has been one of the best moose hunting seasons I've had in a long time. It started out by seeing about 10 moose during the bow season, just never worked out with being able to get close enough and most of them were cows and calves. After watching a cow and calf during the bow season a few times, I took my girlfriend to the spot later on and she managed to take the calf with a single shot at 100 yards and got her first moose. Talk about an excited hunter!![]() Since then I had only seen a few lone cows until the other morning when I was out on my trapline. I got a late start checking the traps and I had come across the tracks where three moose had been walking on one of the trails. They headed into a thick spot so I left them alone and went to check out another area close by. I spotted a cow and calf standing in a small valley about 150 yards away. I took two shots at the calf and watched it fall over. Its been a couple years since I personally have shot a moose and I've always loved chasing them in the snow but this is this first one I've shot with snow on the ground, so I was pretty pumped! I have a buddy that wants to fill a bull tag this weekend so we'll be out chasing em again, can't wait! ![]() ![]() |

Congratulations to you and your girlfriend. That is very cool that she got her first moose. Nice to have the whole family involved in the hunt. Good luck on your bull hunt.
