This is a bull I killed in October.
After he was down I ended up hiring a helicopter to get him to cold-storage ASAP.

There was a post on this site titled "Flying Moose" that showed a YouTube of the air-lift.

This is a picture of my camp, I hunted alone for 2 weeks and had a run-in with an angry Black Bear (now it's a rug with arrow holes in it).

That is an awesome sounding hunt and what a brute. You are the new Canadian Bad Ass! Is that a camera mounted on the riser of your bow?
The more I shoot the better I feel!

Another view of the rack. The Fang Riser lets you hang your APA almost anywhere. The right side sort of folds up vertically rather than being flat like many other moose.

Moose goes flying. The helicopter pilot said the load sensor on the line hook-up read the lift weight at 1400 lbs so speculation is before I gutted him and cut his legs off he may have weighed between 1700-1800 lbs.

There will be a story but not sure where yet

Thank you to everyone for all the positive comments about this adventure.
Many of you have been involved and been helpful in a variety of ways as this hunt has continued to unfold.
Bigbulljoe, Road, Crashman, Renegade, Beasley Bros., James Vanos, Kevin Austin (Austin's Follies), Christopher Kirk, Anita Renaud, just to name a few.

Christopher Kirk is doing a full shoulder mount, a sneak pose, to show off his rack.
Chistopher's wife gave up a planned evening out the night I got the bull home so Christopher could spend the evening capeing the head and preserving everything.

Thanks again, Angus

Thats awesome. I always wanted to go and do that but I knew killing a moose would be the easy part but how would I butcher and get it out alone. Never thought of hiring a helicopter. Again congrats I wish I had the resources to do that and I'm very jealous.

this is what hunting moose is all about boys and girls!!

Love the rack.....very UNIQUE looking Ontario bull

Quite a few monsters have been taken over the last few years in this great province of ours, kinda makes you wonder what other GIANTS are roaming our forests.

Congratulations on a spectacular bull

Looking forward to the rest of the story!

Oh and a very MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

Congratulations, nice moose and black bear rug you have there. That is the hunt of a life time you did solo in Ontario. Can you give us some information on the airplane you have there?

Hi Found,
Thanks for your comments!

My plane is a Murphy Rebel, Murphy Aircraft in Chilliwack BC, it's a homebuilt amphibious floatplane.

2 place high-wing, aluminum, monocoque construction, VFR, 1800 GW

McKenzie/STOL leading edge cuffs, a Lycoming 0-320 A2B, 160hp (that I built)
80" Borer seaplane prop and homebuilt Murphy 1800 floats

I've been flying and working on it since it's first flight in 1998 and have had it apart many times tweaking and personalizing it to meet my needs as a durable, reliable plane for backcountry flying.

This picture is from a solo fly-in, archery moose hunt I did in 07

This moose was recently panel scored and is now officially the new moose archery record. This moose scores 204-5/8. I am told the story of this record breaker including some other record breakers will be the new FROW 6th edition set to come out in the next few months! Congratulations Angus.

Just received a letter from the MNR biologist at Bracebridge who aged this moose. She cut thin slices from the two lower front incisors to examine under the microscope.

Result was 6-1/2 years old!

From data I've seen, moose live between 15-25 years so I'm thinking this guy was a teenager in moose-years.

Opinions?!?!

Thanks, Angus

I would have figured him between 10 and 15 years.

You should have let the little guy grow up! lol)))

I would have figured your moose to be 7-9. Moose do not usually live 15-25 yrs. More like 1-14 with their peak in the 6-9 range for bulls if I had to guess. I suppose a captive animal and more likely a cow could make 20 years or a bit more. Your moose may well have had more bone this year though. :yikes:

Thats just a damn good bull... I' ve seen some of the biggest racked nwo bulls in old burns. Bruce Ranta did a article about rack devolopment in burns a few years ago... I can't find it.... It was around eigth years ago but once I came across a bull(Just off the Mill rd(Longlac)) That was wider then my Dodge crewcab and had a mess of points and i ave seen a few doozy's.. Just get off the beat'in path.. Just like all animals the big ones don't get big for............ :mooser:
