I have made 2 one hundred dollar bets with a couple friends on how the moose pool system works presently.

Here is the crux of the bet and I am willing to pay if I am incorrect.

My 2 friends are adimant that they are in pool 2 by virtue of buying a moose game seal and made the bet with me.

I told them that they are not in the pool 2 until they apply. I explained that if you buy a moose game seal this year and don't apply then you are not in pool 2.

Am I wrong?

The way I see it is if they were correct then by virtue of buying a lisence the year before and not applying then they should be able to apply as a pool 1 applicant this year. Which I know you can't.

So what I am laying my money on is you must apply to be in pool 2!

I am 100% willing to pay if I am incorrect. Please clarify this for me OTB!

Thanx crazy 8

The way I understand it, you are correct as by just buying a license does not enter you into the draw you must still fill that out.

You are right. You have to enter the draw to be in pool 2 and enter every year after to stay in pool 1 ( until you get drawn)

Thanks....
I have sent an email asking the question to the MNR and when they respond that is what I will use to settle the bet! I originally said $20 bucks but they were so sure of themselves they up'd it to $100 so I said your both on!

That was an easy 200$

No need to wait for an mnr response. Take a look at the regs. Page 34, left column half way down.

You are in Pool 1 if you:
• Applied on time for the 2011 draw, and were
unsuccessful in getting a tag; OR
• Were successful in the 2011 draw and transferred the tag to
the group alternate. Note new tag transfer policy took effect
last year (see page 39); OR
• Were successful in the 2011 draw for a calf tag in
WMU 48, 55A, 55B or 57.
Simply purchasing a moose licence last year does not
qualify you for Pool 1 this year.
You are in Pool 2 if you:
• Received an adult moose validation tag in the 2011 draw;
OR
• Received an adult moose validation tag through a
transfer in 2011; OR
• Did not apply to the draw in 2011.

Enjoy spending your $200...you are exactly right. If they only buy a tag then they are only able to take a calf (unless you hunt in an area where you have to draw a calf tag), and you are not put into the "once in a lifetime I might" draw for an adult tag.

I am not planning on hunting mosse at all this year but have been in Pool 1 for about 6 years now so had to apply anyway to keep my Pool 1 status...had to eat that $53.00....terrible system
