Hey everyone. First post. I am going on my first moose hunt this year, after many years of deer hunting. Four of us are headed up, we drew a cow tag, and a bull tag, and got a surplus cow tag!!! (I joined an established gang) I am VERY excited. Any tips for a rookie? |

You're in for a great time and you will be hooked - enjoy!! ![]() As far as tips go, everything about moose hunting is more intensive than deer hunting in every way. These are my top 10 tips to you: 1) Make sure you are in good physical shape as the terrain can get tough; 2) Make sure you bring tested, reliable equipment and clothing that will not let you down; 3) Bring bug spray if you do not want to get eaten alive by black flies LOL; 4) Make sure you don't get lost - you can easily get lost in the northern bush - nothing can ruin a trip faster; 5) Be safe with your bow or firearm - don't let excitement of the game cloud your judgement; 6) Make sure you are thoroughly familiar with the hunting regulations and follow them; 7) Make sure you learn how to identify moose and be sure of this before you pull the trigger; 8) At camp with the other guys, make sure you do your share of the work, without being told to so - nothing is more annoying than a newbie that wants to be catered to but not do any work; 9) listen to the experienced guys as was said before - they know the ropes; 10) Make sure you enjoy every minute of it - do not let lack of success if that is what happens spoil this - the game is only a small part of the whole experience.

I'm Sure you'll be hooked on the moose hunting, one of the most important tips I give any rookie is NEVER enter the bush without a compass, I carry a GPS, extra batteries, and a compass. Do no rely on just a GPS. Ask the old timers to teach you how to use a compass, you'll be glad you did!! Enjoy your hunt and good luck!! |
