I heard that if you applied using the 99Z code then you do not quailify for a surplus tag. A friend of mine said he got through the phone call in for surplus tags and because he applied using 99Z they told him he did not qualifiy for the surplus tag. |

That's right, if you did not apply , why would you qualify, give surplus to someone who did apply and did not receive a tag.Only makes sense.

Yes that is correct if you apply 99Z and then call the phone line 1-800 number it will say you did not apply in the moose draw. You are not eligable for an extra tag or should say surplus tag. I guess there thinking is if you apply 99z it is because you are not moose hunting but want to keep your poool status. So if you keep applying 99Z and keep getting an extra tag you always would be pool one sort of a little unfair but a great way to worrk the system if it would actually work.. .. |

I agree, but if you look at it another way the people in 99z did spend thier $52 on a tag and should be eligible or have the same chance on extra tags......just a thought. |

We had the same thing as well and next year the guys will apply to a area that its imposssible to draw a tag as a single instead. So a large group guarentee and see how that goes to keep in the pool. |

Here was the gangs scenerio that led to the situation. The group of four archery hunt in WMU 19 and had 3 guys in pool 1 this year which is what is required to gaurentee an archery bull tag. The fourth group member who was a pool 2 applicant didn't need to apply but needed to be in pool 1 next year so he applied for 99Z. All 4 hunters are going hunting and have paid there moose license fee's. This year there was surplus tags available for archery Bull/Cow in WMU 19 so the fourth group member (the 99Z applicant) was trying to obtain a surplus tag like every other hunter that never recieved a tag but still was going moose hunting this season. |

You should of just put him in with the group,he was not going to draw the tag or hurt your chances of drawing, thats as safe as you can get.On the other hand he payed his money, things change as the year goes by he should be able to call in for a surplus tag, anyone who has done it knows how hard it is to get through. Good luck moose hunting |

First of all he needs to apply to move from Pool 2 to Pool 1. Just buying a tag does not move ya up the ladder. Seocndly I would go with the Whitetail Weasle's idea above. In fact we do this regularly in order to avoid pulling tags from pool 2 players. Donnie |

Sorry, I thought that when you are APPLYING to 99z that you are still applying, the more I think about it, if a person buys a tag and applies like everyone else (no matter what WMU)they should be allowed to buy an extra tag.
