I hear the trans canada is terrible for construction between North Bay and Cochrane, heading up that way in a couple of week's. Any body care to jump in and give there opinion if they have traveled through there recently. :howdy:

If i had known how bad it was i would have taken 17 at nbay not 11..i made record time getting to nbay then the ###### show started 40 k out of town...looon stretches of construction and lots of them..it took me a lil over two hrs to get to new liskard..it is bad between there and cochrane to..i figure it put me a good 60_90 min behind..very frustrating. Thing is it could be cleared up in two weeks could be worse...i wont be going back that w thats for sure

Thanks Corman,i'll pass it on to the other guy's but i am sure they won't take 17 hwy. Those hills along there will kill our truck's with the big and heavy trailers we haul. :fudd:

Swampdogger,

Not sure where you are going hunting but why not take the Sultan Rd across from 144 - Wawa. You bypass all the small towns and hills on 17 between the Sault and Wawa.

I took the road in July and it was in great condition. It usually cuts at least 1-1.5 hours off my trip back to T-Bay when I take that way.

Just a thought.

I like my bearing and axle to much to take the sult cut off...used it twice amd never again...its a crap shoot if it will be in decent shape or not...imo..not worth the risk and wear and tear

If I was travelling at night, I would be taking 11, just because there are so many hills and bends on 17, but if your tavelling during the day like us take 17, the sceanery is pretty nice........either way good luck in the hunt.

I have drove on and still do the worst washboard in canada, thought my ford was going to shake till every bolt would fall out of it. The tricki on waashboard is do 90 og 100 km. an hour and it smooths out. The bad part is if something step's out in front of you, OUCH> :fudd:

I was up to KL in July towing an RV & yes there was construction, but those stretches need it. They must've started the construction north of 66 after we were there because when we drove over to Timmins, I didn't notice much in the way of construction.

Funny you mention driving to Ottawa from up north. I was on 17 from Pembroke to Mackey 2 years ago. That stretch was pretty rough.

drove up and down at night with very little slow downs, just a couple of lights at bridge work and a few bumps. Did get a stone chip in the windshield though, but thats bound to happen somewhere along the road
