stolen cam; update from spring

Well HOLF you won't believe what I am about to say. I am :yikes: to say the least. Back in the late spring early summer you will recall my cam being "removed" from my property. I wrote the fella a lil love letter hopping he would fall for my bluff but had no luck, or so i though. See i told him to have it back within 48 hrs, no harm, no foul. I went over everyday for a week and nothing. Often, instead of driving in, i would look through binos from the rd 400 yds away. Well today I go walking in there up the fence line to check on a tree stand, i had left a chair in this ground blind i have there for turkey hunting and i was going to grab it. When i went to grab it, i noticed a bag with something in it. I pick it up and HOLF if it isn't my camera, along with my letter and another letter.

It looks as though it has been there all along, I just didn't look in there. I assumed he would put it back from where he took it. So obviously it was him that took it. I am a very happy person right now but i am also at odds. His letter was fairly sarcastic, yet amusing in nature. He says he didn't steal it, he was just curious, and borrowed it. He says he wants my blind removed as when i sit in it, i would be pointing to wards his house. True, but I used this blind for 2 seasons of deer and used archery equip only. His house is about 350-400 yds away. I also use this blind for turkey hunting. I see his concern, if I was to be using a rifle.

He tells me I will be watched this hunting season that I obey all laws, and that he will not think twice about phoning the authorities. So i fully expect to be paid a visit by either the police or CO in the near future. He also says he is willing to discuss the matter in more detail if i want to stop by. Which I think i just might do. I'll talk to him, clear things up and call it even. But stay off my property.

I can tell by the way the letter was worded, this is no dumb kid. He may be a pot head, but he is not stupid.

A) at least you got it back....that's good to hear!

B) as long as you're doing everything legal, there's nothing to fear; after the first visit by the CO or Cop, they'll probably be going to visit HIM!

C) Keep the letter.....you may need it.

Definately stop and talk to him, more or less to call his bluff and to show you wont be intimidated. Secondly, be careful what you say and how you say it to him. Thirdly, pleasantly remind him that the law doesn't see it as "borrowing" if he didn't ask......so he STOLE it!
Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a bowel movement by the clean end

Depending on how the conversation goes, hammer him! If he gets his back up and can't see that you are in the right, then have him charged for theft and trespassing. He already admitted to both. Make sure he knows (if he's a dink) that the ball is now in your court. If he's a nice guy and can agree to let live, then part ways. That's what I'd do anyway. Good for you and don't let him boss you around.

I have 2 feelings on this. First thing that comes to mind is to go see him, thank him for the return and confirm that we are even, no harm no foul with the understanding he doesn't tresspass or steal anything else.

THe other part of me wants to confront him and rip his head off still. I meen he has admited twice he stole it and did kid of threaten me in the letter. Also the letter kind of turns it around making it sound like i am the bad guy here by writting him a letter threatening him and accusing him. But by doing this I know he will be more of a prick. I'll have the police and CO's on my tail, (which by the second time they came out and found nothing wrong I would have him charged with harrasment. I'll have slashed tires, ect. And we want to build there in a few years to. I'll post the letter for ya'll to read tomorrow. Melanie thinks it was written by the Dad, not him. It is well written.

Thanks everyone for the responces. I will keep the letter for sure, good tip. I like that CC, the law doesn't see it as "borrowing" Melanie thinks the letter was not written by him but by his father. It was very artculatly (sp) written. Once again, thanks.

Was the letter that you wrote for him left in the cameras location or did you send it to him directly??

Just my .02 cents but I would go on record with the police or local CO officer first, before approaching the guy, the police might give you some insight on the kind of lunatic this guy might be before you step foot on his property.

just a thought.

cheers

When/if you talk to him, bring a witness! No threats or anything, just spell it out to him that you will have zero tolerance and that you will make the police aware and start some paperwork at their office...regardless of if you actually do this. IN other words, BLUFF him shitless! Put the fear into him. Fire with fire is a great way to fight. Make yourself out to be nearly as crazy as him, but never take the first punch to keep yourself on the right side of the law.

Oh I'll also add that he may end up being very reasonable. If that's the case change tactics and play nice guy back, although be sure to toe that line and still put a bit of fear in him, keep him thinking.

Good LUCK!

It could just be that I'm not aware of the whole story, but I wouldn't talk with him.

He's admitted to trespassing and borrowing something that isnt' his is 'stealing'.

It's like he's playing a dumb game and he's inviting you to discuss with him something that doesn't need to be dealt with in the first place. he's not coming across as all there!!

Your not breaking any laws.
Your allowed to be where you are.

He's harrasing you and threatening you. Have you contacted the police about this?

You will most likely be paid a visit some night your there and having already reported this will add up against him.

I know what I'd be doing, but that would be taking the law in my own hands. I'd be waiting for him in a dark alley some night and feed it to him real good, then I'd tell him that I was just curious. lol

Seriously, as much as you would like to dummy him up, you're better off doing things the legal way. If you go and dummy this guy the tables WILL be turned on you. GUARANTEED!

I had a cam taken from me a couple of years ago and I was told that this guy was lurking around my parking/camping area I have at the lot, I just went up to the guy's house and told him that my two other cams caught him with the cam in his hands (bluff). He knew he was caught, so he used the excuse that he thought it was someone else's (a neighbour he didn't get along with)... Yeah, right!... To make a long story short, he no longer lives in the area.

Yeah, you're better off calling the authorities to deal with this guy.
