Well, I will preface my rant by saying I am conservative, I voted conservative and barring any unforseen circumstances I will in the future as well. I believe in freedom of speech, fiscal responsibility, supporting our troops and our elderly. I am quite happy with the way the election went. No the conservatives did not get a majority but they got more seats than the last election and the soundly defeated the liberals. In my humble opinion the liberals, NDP and green had no real plan for our country other than to tax the hell out of us. The conservatives addressed crime and justice in the debate with no mention of gun control. Apparently the NDP, Green and liberals only see crime associated with firearms. Before the election I frequented the CBC web site which is blatantly liberal. Liberal posters outnumber conservatives by about 10-1. Before the election the liberals spouted off about how they would defeat Harper and Dion would be the next PM. Turns out Canada doesn't want some crazy carbon tax. After the election the liberals spout off about election reform (notice no mention of this before the election). They say the majority of the people did not vote conservative. To me this makes no sense at all seeing as the conservatives got more than 10% more votes than the next highest party. To me it is kind of funny how the liberals are always blaming someone else for everything that happens. I for one am a PROUD CANADIAN!! And I thank all of you that went out and voted, whatever party you voted for. It's what makes Canada a great country. |

This could get interesting Well, i'm not a liberal, have never been or will be,...... i think. NDP was not good for my livelyhood, been there, it sucked. A vote for green was a throw away vote knowing they'd never get in. Sometimes not being a majority government isn't all that bad. All parties get a vote that way. Although the conservatives won't be able to truly enact a plan without being a majority. I'm happy with how it turned out. I think law abiding gun owners and hunters are fairly, and i mean fairly safe for a bit. |

I'm not a card carrying member, but to say I'm conservative is an utter understatement. I'm not pie in the sky ideologies and Carbon Taxes and such. It takes business sense to weather out bad economic storms, not dreamers. I have always voted Conservative and will likely always do so. My proudest day so far is when I helped Mike Harris get a majority in Ontario. Mike |

An interesting side note. The only ridings to go liberal were in Toronto, and the East coast. Maybe the libs will take a lesson from this and get in touch with the rest of Canada. |

That is why I am proud to be a Canadian, it is a Free Democratic country and you can vote for the worst party if you want or the best party, and may the best party win, in which they did. Now the rest of them are all wondering to themselves . "What Happened" ??? |

Thats because it was an un-needed election and that the people of Canada were satisfied with what was going on. I think..... |

satisfied!? i dont think so. i am glad that the tories have a minority government so the liberals and ndp can can them on their toes. as for the low turn out, i think that is due to the poor choices. not much to pick from really. dion is a dope and jack looks like he wears lipstick.

There have been good and effective minority gov'ts in the past, ie Diefenbaker, Pearson. I think maybe the oppsition has been so sour that they will disagree with any motion put forward just to stop any progress. Cutting off the nose just to spite the face. I sincerely hope this will stop, but I am not convinced. I think the Conservatives have a better chance working with the Bloc Quebecois. Our election process worked as it is supposed to but the low turn out was disappointing. Would it have changed the outcome? Absolutely not. I think people are frustrated with the smear campaigns of all parties. The debate was a debacle, Harper spent the whole time defending himself agaist attack. The candidates could have spent the time better explaining how their systems would improve the country. |

unfortunately thats how they run our country as well. just goes to show you that all they care about is themselves and not whats good for the country regardless of which party is in power. they spend way too much time trying too make the other candidates look bad and end up making themselves look foolish and untrustworthy. how about working together for the good of the country?! now there is a novel idea. |

Right now is a good time to be a Conservative member (in this modern incarnation, which is really just an amalgamation of the Reform Party...Canadian Alliance Party...Progressive Conservative Party, etc.) because within the sociological make-up that is Canada these days, it's good to see that common sense can still have a glimmer of hope. It's always a sad thing to see that Toronto plays such a large role in this country during elections when the rest of the country seems to think a lot differently than that city. Maybe it's time to just put up a wall around it and just let Miller fold the city into itself. I should say, it's a good time to be a Conservative party member...or live in Quebec, since the Bloc are probably the best party to make concessions with in order to get bills passed. Why we have a 'national' party in Canada that only represents one province is beyond me...frankly, I think that the Bloc Quebecois should be required to run candidates in every riding, in order to receive federal funding. Let's see how they do in Calgary.
