ATV's and gun transportation

Hey all! Not sure if this if the place to post this but got a question. I only hunt in the controlled hunt and we all use our ATV's to get to and from our stands. We all have scabbards attached to the bikes to carry our shotguns in. Question. When we get back to camp, can we leave our guns in the scabbards unloaded during breakfast, lunch and overnight? All the atv's are brought in for the night and are brought out the next morning. Does anyone care to clarify the legal way we should be doing this?

Thanks!

Should probably mention that we are in 69A in the Napanee area.

If you are in an area usually inhabited by wildlife, during the period from a halfhour
after sunset to a half-hour before sunrise, you must unload and encase any firearms (including air gun, pellet gun, bow or crossbow) in your possession.
Firearms must be securely encased in a manner whereby they are not readily accessible.

the above is from the Ontario Hunting Regs

I believe that a scabbard on an ATV is not classed as secure under the Federal firearms code. Unlike inside a locked vehicle concealed by a cover , the gun is classed as visable if only in a scabbard. This is what I was told during my PAL course. The gun must have a trigger lock and be out of sight when unattended. Now if the quads are in a locked in a building are the guns out of site???? Provincially the the cover must be on the scabbard 1/2 hr after sunset until 1/2 hr before sunrise (unaccessable as in a case), if out side. Hope this helps, but personally I always take my gun off my quad so it doesn't get stolen, even in my garage.

Its nice to lock it in a vehicle, encased - your not tripping over it in the camp and it stays climatized for the area your hunting + your gun will sweat or scope fog up when you bring it into a hot camp
