SEDALIA, Mo. - A hunter bagged a big buck on the second day of firearms season, but the kill caused him a lot of pain. Randy Goodman, 49, said he thought two well-placed shots with his .270-caliber rifle had killed the buck on Nov. 19. Goodman said the deer looked dead to him, but seconds later the nine-point, 240-pound animal came to life. The buck rose up, knocked Goodman down and attacked him with his antlers in what the veteran hunter called "15 seconds of hell." The deer ran a short distance and went down, and died after Goodman fired two more shots. Soon Goodman started feeling dizzy and noticed his vest was soaked in blood. So he reached his truck and drove to a hospital, where he received seven staples in his scalp and was treated for a slight concussion and bruises. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28005680/?GT1=43001 |

I was always under the impression that when you approach a deer that is down you would poke it a bit just to see if it would show any reaction and, I was told that they always die with their eyes opened..??? |

He got lucky this time. I bet he doesn't walk up to a downed deer again like he did. |

I always poke the downed animal or push it with my foot on it's rear. Check the openned eyes and more often than not it's tongue will be hanging. He's a lucky fella, this time anyways. |

Lucky guy, I remember when I was 7 and my brother was 10, we were at a picnic with our parents and a buck came out of the woods and just wailed into us. Thank goodness dad was there to save us. I've had great respect for any deer or elk after that.
