Well this winter they are opening up a bounty on wild boar that are feral and running rampant in the Red Deer area...I was just there today..
$50 bones for every pig ear you bring in, and you can shoot as many as you want and keep them for your own consumption!

I guess you know what I'll be doing in January eh?...lol...

SSSOOOIIEEE!!!!!!!!!.....I'll be using a rifle though....too damn cold here for poking one with a stick this winter....only minus 30 today though...lol...could be worse..
So now I just gotta figure out what rifle to bring???
the Tikka .270 or the ole .243???

My brother and a bud of his have shot 3 so far over the past month. Bounty on wolve's where he live's $300 but you have to bring the whole animal in and you get to keep it.

sounds like fun! Make sure you bring the 270 with a heavy bullet. Those suckers are tougher than you think. A broadside shot on a 300 lb boar with a 270 didn't get a pass through...and that was straight through the ribs...no shoulder. The shield on those boars is like armour!

Go for behind the ear if you can. They are notorious for leaving very little blood trail.

I just went on a hog hunt a few weeks ago. I used a 30.06 and it may have been over kill. A buddy that went also was using a 270 and it dropped both of his hogs where they stood. Those were shoulder shots.

how big were your hogs? And were they boars or sows?

sorry to railroad your post Bigfoot...here's a picture of how thick and solid the shield was on a 300 lb boar. A 270 from 80 yards didn't pass through the shield on the back side. It's literally like armour on the really big ones.

Here's the boar

Here's his tusks

We've shot 200 lb boars that had maybe half the shield the big guys get.

Chris looks as though you have been away from Alberta too long if you are letting a little -30 weather stop you from drawing the bow lol)))
Good luck and be sure to post some pics.

You boys need to step up to a real round. My .350 rem mag would flatten those ugly buggers no problem. It shoots 225gr Nosler Partitions at 2700 fps. If you ever saw it drop a bear you would be amazed.

I shot a 300lb boar in SASK with my PSE G-Force at 80# and about a 20 yard shot and dropped him within 12 yards..that was around 2001..he didn't go too far...lol..
I was using Rocket Mechanicals too....
I stalked 2 big boars that day at a watering hole, and took the closest one,,a big black bugger....still have his skull in Biggar at my Aunts house. I painted it up too, looks awesome.
..lol...your right Shane ..lol...I've been climatized already to Ontario winters....lol..it's COLD here at -38 today!

But I'm still going Ice Fishin at Cralling Valley on Boxing Day!...lol..

Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a bowel movement by the clean end
