Ok, I talked to a lady at the MNR involved with how this is going to work. Seems municipalities will be asked if they agree to have a spring hunt that are in the selected WMU's. Even though a lot of the area within a WMU doesn't fall under a municipality there needs to be support from most of them before the hunt will take place. In other words if all of them say no, there won't likely be a hunt. Minister of the MNR has final say. Yes or No. A very large reason for these areas being selected are, Population surveys done by the MNR (ya I know) Stats,,, Calls into Bear Wise program. Bear Attacks. Public Pressure from residents. I talked to her about smaller communities in the north who are out of the areas selected, who have issues. In a nutshell and like I said, They didn't have enough numbers to justify it! HINT HINT HINT !!!!!!!!!!!! No More SSS. So step 1 is municipality involvement then environmental feed back ( Cant remember the exact name of it ) then ya or na by the Minister of the MNR. |

They have already passed a motion in Sault Ste. Marie to support this and as you say the next step will be to post it on the Environmental Bill of Rights (EBR) website. That is where everyone needs to send in a response as the antis will try to swamp the EBR with negative responses. I personally don't hold much faith in the EBR but if you don't respond then it will not happen for sure. |
